I am looking for a commuter (with flair) that I will ride 100-120 miles per week. I have always wanted a Duc and like the looks/practicality of the MTS. My commute route includes aprox 1 mile of hard-packed dirt/gravel each way. How will the MTS 620 handle this on a daily basis? What kind of mpg can I expect? I have located an 06 with 103 miles for $6500 ($7000 with shipping) far away, but I can't look or ride it obviously. I'm a little hesitant since I have never ridden a 620??? Any new leftovers still floating around? What about the new BMW F650GS (800)... any comparos?

I think the 620 is the best but I have had a dream run with mine and I think it helps that I am a non-standard shape .
Gravel/dirt is no real problem with Z6 tires - my favourite day ride includes about 80-100 miles of gravel and it is always good riding.
I do think that taller people than me (and there are lots) might struggle a bit with the ergos - I have never found the seat uncomfortable but anyone with an inseam of more than about 30" seem to look a bit cramped on a 620 (my opinion only).
I am heading towards 90000km on mine and can't really see getting rid of it - I might add a bike or two but I think the 620 will be in my garage for as long as I can keep riding. |

32-1/2" inseam here, and not cramped. I will say, however, that the pegs could stand to be positioned a bit further aft for greater comfort when riding in a crouched position (passenger pegs are a little high ). When sitting upright, the position is comfortably neutral (and passenger pegs are WAY too high ). |

I am possibly a bit odd (not possibly, definitely ) due to having a tin R knee that doesn't move too well so my view of what is comfortable is no doubt influenced by that.
I agree with having the pegs back a bit - I tend to rest my heels on the peg frame (?) on the highway to get a change of position.
Having said all that I have done a couple of 1000 mile days and there is another site member with a 620 here in NZ who is maybe a foot taller than me (well, a lot taller anyway) and he completed a 24hr/1000 mile ride no problems at all last October. I had forgotten about his example when I posted |

The multi has great leg room; I have a 34in inseam and ride all day with no problem. Expect 45-55 mpg. Everyone loves the MTS 620 and it has a great motor (especially at $6,500)! I don't ride on the dirt or play with BMW's, so I can't help there. |

Congratulations! For sure it would cost Ducati more than $6,500 to build that bike today, so you got a great deal. Be sure and report back on your buying experience; I will be interested to hear about the actual condition of the bike. |

Congrats! I bought my first bike from the same company in NH and had a great experience with the whole process. It shouldn't take too long to get the bike to you. I got mine in 4 days after payment was made. |

I decided I was going to look at the BMW F800GS before I completed the transaction...drove one about 20 miles. It is a nice bike, but not better and for $12000 simply not worth it in my book. Also drove a white 2009 MTS1100S...that really made my mind up to go with the MTS...although I really wanted that bike! Maybe in a couple of years...
I got the 620. It is a beauty - like new! Buying process was painless and shipping was fast. I would have to give National Powersports in NH a thumbs up. I have been busy and only ridden about 20 miles so far. I think I'm going to really like it. It is fine on the gravel. Any pointers for a newby would be greatly appreciated. |

Congratulations; I really like my 620, and here are a few ways which you can make it a better bike. Fit iridium spark plugs - these really smooth out the low speed running; fit a hugger, a 620 Monster one is cheap, just search the forums here for details and lastly, I would not be without my centrestand, it makes maintenance so easy. Good luck! |

Look at the F650GS[its a detuned 800 twin] cheaper in price, lower seat height, tubeless tires and more street manner than it's big brother the 800GS.... It is a lot smoother throttle control than the 620....And smoother clutch action.
But I still love my 620 MTS, ....but would gladly add the BMW...I got to test one last fall, it is a great thinking mans sleeper of a buy... BWTFDIK..
Upsssss..... You already did the dead, you will be happier anyway ... just got to overlook the couple of problem spots, I'm happy with mine! But would gladly...Oh never mind.. |

6'2", eyes of blue etc but definitely not a foot taller. Also planning 6000 km in 10 days in late March, Southern Cross Road Rally , 3600km in 5 days plus travel to and fro - woo woo woo. |

This is surely the start of a long run of wins? Culminating in a final against the Blues.
