Hi Folks,
Having sold my 1000DS 3 years ago I've not been on the forum for some time.
But I am pleased to say that I am now about to go and order a new 1200 S Touring. I would appreciate some advice on what to expect as standard with the bike and also what pitfalls/issues I need to discuss with the dealer.

So, here goes in terms of standard kit
4 manuals/books
small toolkit
1 long and 1 short rear hugger
1 front fender extender
1 master key and 1 folding key
Barrel for top box lock
1 Multistrada 1200 S Touring
Am I correct in thinking that the following issues should have been resolved by the factory or fixed by the dealer under warranty.
defective/poor rear brake
Bike surging and hesitating at low revs (exhaust valve issue?)
Centre stand on 2010 models should be replaced with improved 2011 model
Reserve fuel light coming on early
Stalling on changing down or coming to a halt
Intermittent horn fault
Main beam problem
Jumping out of second gear
Sticky defective clutch - in the wet?!
I guess thats it for now but your help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Daryl (Slug)

Parallel World....
Daryl,

My experience of an earlier June 2010 bike (1200ABS):

4 manuals/books
small toolkit
1 long and 1 short rear hugger
1 front fender extender
1 master key and 1 folding key
Barrel for top box lock - 3 barrels with mine
Dealer fitted Optimate lead

defective/poor rear brake - Higher spec brake fluid solved problem for me (cat removed also)
Bike surging, hunting and hesitating at 3 -4 K revs (exhaust valve issue?) - ECU update fixed
Centre stand on 2010 models should be replaced with improved 2011 model - N/A
Reserve fuel light coming on early - Fuel gauge / range / miles left give you plenty of info.
Stalling on changing down or coming to a halt - ECU updates fixed
Intermittent horn fault - No problem with mine
Main beam problem - Down to adjustment?
Jumping out of second gear - No problem with mine
Sticky defective clutch - in the wet?! - No problem with mine
Gear Lever Rubber - My original is still in place

Don't be put off by all the minor niggling posts (gear lever rubber etc) Your new bike should be pretty fault/niggle free.

It is a truly exceptional bike that will outperform most on real roads, in comfort and with added safety (ABS/TC). Welcome back to Ducati!

So I'm not the only one with my gear lever rubber splitting in the first 2500 miles?

and...you guys get a front fender extender?....we get both rear huggers, but no extra front. Or maybe I should have and didn't?

Hi Kirky, thanks for the response.
I spoke to Ducati Manchester today and grilled them about most of the issues and the salesman was refreshingly honest. He agreed that a number of issues (including some I wasn't aware of) had been identified on the early series of bikes but that software and physical updates were being dealt with as either warranty recalls or upgrades at time of servicing.

I thought the original MTS was great so, I am pretty confident that the new MTS will be even bettter. I;ll be booking a test ride in the next few days.
Its unreasonable not to expect a few niggles and in my experience a good relationship with a reasonable service manager at your local dealership can usually overcome most issues.

Cheers Daryl

--I have a 2010 S touring. I had some serious low rev stumbling, but a set of fatducs corrected that for me. I also have the most recent ECU updates.

--I cut/rewelded the arm on my center stand. Shortened it by about 3". No problem now.

Bled my rear brake, and it is now somewhat 'servicable'.

Haven't had any of the other troubles you listed, but I did have a DES error a while back. Seems to be a fairly common problem. Not sure if it has been addressed definitively on the newer bikes or not. The dealer replaced my DES ECU under warranty to fix mine.

If you liked your old multi, you will love this new one!
