I ended up selling my SV (long story)
So now I am looking around, and just test rode a 620.
Really nice, but I just have a few questions for real owners.
Since the bike was new, they limited me to 4K, a little vibration
at 2K, but how is the vibration in the upper ranges, ie do the mirrors
vibrate a lot.
There also seemed to be a rattle, and am wondering , does the clutch still rattle on these, even though they are a wet type?
Also, the salesman was telling me the 600 mile service is $600 US, is that about right
Thanks in advance |

The vibration gets better..You need to run the rpms around 4 or 5 K in a given gear.. SHifting during the break in. the clutch/gears are very cluncky (rattle ?) you also need to focus on positive shifting.. or you may get a false netral in 5 or 6..
The 600 mile service, I think from reading around here should be about 400.00 average. 300 labor the rest parts..
All it really is, is an oils change & nut tightening.. You should search the fourms for service costs.. There is one fourm with costs posted from all over the country.. the price ranges are crazy.. What area are you in ?
My 620 has 8K on it and runs like a champ 0 problems.. It ran even better at the 6000 mile service that cost 575.00 w/ belts etc. It was a huge differance..
Most of the issues your feeling leave around 1000 miles or so.. Also alot of what you feel on a ducati is the desmo love, nothing feels more like a motorcycle then a duc.. The SV & the V=strom are like sex with a condom.. You don't feel anything and when you do its to late.. (laughing)

It was much less than that for my 1000- but the 6k was gong to be pretty high, so I did it myself.
You can save money by changing the oil yourself.
As Chairguy says, prices for service are all over the place.
Where are you located?

Thanks for the replies.
Well Chairguy, I guess you said it best.
I live in Columbus, Ohio; and have been quoted
anywhere from $150-$600 for the 600 mile service.
I liked the bike, but am trying to look at the expense, reliability vs
say an FZ6 that I also have been looking at.
I also am concerned with the vibration and noise I
felt at around the 2K mark, of course the salesman said
it was normal, that is why I am asking the those
who actually ride the bike |

I paid about $250 for the 600 mile service. $600 is just plain crazy!
I run my bike between 4000-7500 for most things, but have hit 9000 when passing. It's a great bike, but I hate the vibration you get below 3500 rpm. |

I paid NZ$211.00 for my service - as I ride with higher revs i notice some tingling through the bars but i am hoping bar ends will fix that - even if it doesn't I don't care, I LOVE my 620 - I have never ridden a bike that comes close as far as enjoyment goes. The foibles are just there to try us!
Merry Christmas from this side of the Pacific - only 3 hours to go till Dec 25 here.. |

I notice some vibration (windshield vibrates) in the 3k rpm range, but only in lower gears but I haven't hit the 1k mile mark yet.
Service: I was quoted $385 for the 600 mile service (SF bay area). They told me it's oil change plus tightening the belts... Plus they're going to tighten my mirror that someone ganked.

[Edit: I had the price listed as $585. It was $384 including taxes. Sorry if I caused any alarm!]

I'm having issues with vibration in the mirrors as well, primarily between 2900 to 3700 rpm (but I'm also a new rider and this could be inexperience in bike handling ) My first service here (at 1000km) in British Columbia cost $357 CDN....$600 US sounds quite expensive.

The engine is happiest at over 4000rpm, and the mirror vibes disappear by then anyway. I rarely ride mine at under 5000rpm and have no complaints about the mirrors. They are heaps better than most other bikes in any case. |

I think you'll get funky vibrations if your bike is in too high of a gear (if you're going 25 or 30 and you're in 5th gear). It's also true that if you're in too high of a gear for the speed you're going, that the RPMs will be low, below 3,000 or so. |
