Need advice: coming from a sport bike background I'm looking at a more comfortable somewhat sporting but also 2 up capable bike. I'm in CT in USA. Our better riding is on eastern part of state on somewhat crappy roads. I get bounced around and wrists take a beating on my TLR1000. My friends KTM 990 supermoto is the perfect bike for these roads but lack of funds put me in MTS land. I know s MTS is not a supermoto but canl t be ridden at a fast pace. Is the Ohlins suspension a lot better than the standard stuff? And is the 1100 noticeably faster? Thanks

I had a KTM SMT990 after 2 Multis 1000/1100 and then went back to a Multi 1000!
(Do a search on here for my review)
Deffo go for the S version as the Ohlins is superb. And if it's. a stock bike then I'd probably say go for the 1100 as they have a little more bhp/torque and a few niggles
sorted. Otherwise a well sorted 1000 is a beautiful thing and has made me smile more than anything else for the last few years!
Very Happy

Haven't ridden a 1000 so can't comment re comparative speeds. Can't imagine the 1100 is any slower.

Have ridden both the 1100 and 1100s. Bought the s because I reckon the Ohlins are fantastic on the crappy roads that are normal in Australia anywhere off the major highways (and often on them any distance from a major city). Since I avoid the slab like the plague, and am not good with dirt/gravel, the 1100S is just perfect for me.

I owned a non-S and never really faulted the suspension, but I test rode an S and the Ohlins was very nice; plush yet very composed at a sporting pace. You can make the non-S composed, but then it won't be quite as plush. You can make it plush, but then it might be just a bit too soft. Neither flaw is a big deal, but the Ohlins seemed to manage both at the same time.

Dynos I have seen around the internet actually show the 1000DS with a tiny bit more up top, but the 1100 is a little meatier in the mid-range. I had trouble noticing the difference back-to-back. I'd prioritize condition and accessories much more than 1100 or 1000. One note is the 1000DS has a classic Ducati dry clutch. For no rational reason, I miss my dry clutch. The 1100 has a "refined" Rolling Eyes wet clutch.

Thanks. That's what I was hoping. Best deals so far are on 04-05 non S, 1000 obviously so I think I'll be fine on these.

I bought the 04 solely for the dry clutch. All my Monsters were wet and I like the fizzy I get from the sound of the dry. I really enjoy the bike, even if it's a non S, there is no comparison to the Monsters harshness in terms of ride quality.

I've had a 1000S and now an 1100S. 1st of all , after some non-Ohlin's suspensions, going to the 1000S was like a Ferrari over a Fiat!

Definitely, the 1100S has a much better torque curve and WAY BETTER when you fine tune the exhaust and Air box (replace), and add an ECU upgrade of any sort.

Find an 1100S with about 20K+ miles that is well kept.

In fact I have one I'd be willing to sell at a very fair price to someone who would appreciate it. I haven't listed it anywhere, because everybody wants stock bikes.

Good Luck, cheers!

Just bought an 05 1000S with tons of aftermarket upgrades for a great price. Seems awesome so far.
