Dealer has an 07 1100S Red "Demo" with 800 miles. They want $12,500 + sales tax + $375 factory freight puts it at $13,995 plus plates OTD. Price includes first service. There is a GIVI top box installed they will sell me at a "discount" but it's not included in the $12.5k.
Whatcha think?
I'm not in a big rush, but haven't seen any used 07 Red 1100S's over the last few months that I've been casually looking. I'm stuck on 1100S and Red. I know it will take a while for the 07's to turn over. The big thorn in my side is that I know of a low mile black 07 1100S with all 3 hard bags for $10,900 from a local BMW dealer so the $12.5k Red doesn't look so hot to me. I just can't do black (I know, but it's a Ducati, it has to be red ).
What would a good counter on the 07 Red 1100S be?
The impulsive part of me says it's not a smoking deal but better than MSRP and a kick in the behind. But I LOVE a smoking deal.
This dealer is about 100 miles from home and there is one very close to me that would get the future service. I'm going into the closer dealer this weekend to get a price on a new 08 1100S that they have on the floor to compare what kind of discount on new might be possible.
I've been checking Multistrada.net, Ducati.ms, ADVRider.com, Cycle Trader, Craig's List (posted a wanted ad), Ebay, local classifieds and local dealer websites. Any place else I should be checking?
Thanks for lookin'

$12875 + tax for a demo? I'd say no, thanks and get a new one somewhere else. That's only $1120 off MSRP. It's not enough discount for a demo IMO, especially in the slower part of the year. And of course the price includes the first service, since the service has already been done, and it's only about $100 anyway. I'd be surprised if you can't get that new 2008 out the door for around $13,500 + tax.

I paid almost exactly this much for mine new in March. I would expect that used should get better discount, especially demo. Face it, in 2 weeks this will be 1 year old bike...
I would not buy unless dealer drops price another grand. Or buy '08 for this price and be sure how the bike was broken-in. I personally would never buy demo - you never know how badly bike was abused in first miles of its life. |

+ 1 on wait and look elsewhere. Heck, the black sounds like a good deal and having all three bags right off the bat is a nice option to have. I have a red bike but the more see of the black Ducati's, the more I like the look. Good luck in your search. JC |

First of all, black is much more attractive. However, if personal defects mean you must have red, you could do something nice and custom (paintwise) for the $1600 you would save on the black bikes. Red bodywork with black logos on a black frame with black wheel might look sharp....or you could just wait until the dealer gets his 08s and drops the price more... |

Sure, the black ones are nice to look at: BUT, the red ones are the fastest! Haggle for a better price. Think any sale this time of the year would make a dealer happy. |

Thanks kamil!
What's a good form of payment for a private sale? I'd guess a bank draft or cashier's check. |

The deal with Duc demos is that they have to be ridden 600 miles before they can be sold. Ducati makes that stipulation because they believe anyone who rides one will want to be one so they are forcing the dealership to keep the demo bike in service for at least 600 miles. Then it can be sold for $1K off MSRP. |

I just picked up my '08 1100s yesterday. I got it for $13,495, plus 10% off of heated grips, hugger, handguards and factory bags. They also gave me a very good trade in allowance on my ST3!
BTW, my two teenage daughters walked into the garage, and commented that it was the ugliest motorcycle I'd ever brought home. So that right there tells me I did the right thing moving from the ST to the Multi! |

Mine was setup as a Demo, I was the only one that rode it- and I bought it!
But perhaps the dealer didn't 'claim' it as a Demo or something.
I did get a price break- but it was winter and all.
