ok the story goes on and on , Harley this and Harley that jezzzz.
Think about it this way they are not really motorcycles they are ICONS , kinda like apple pie, burgers and fries, fiftys rock and roll, 57 cadilacs,,
they are really throwbacks from a different era, The riders of Harleys really do not give a rats a-- about corners , performance, brakes, etc what they like is what they get , and if they like that then super , if they are happy than whats the problem..
you ride for a reason.. whatever that reason is .... you ride...

Well, here's a 1200gs owner thinking about making the switch.

The other day I went for a ride in the mountains on my 1200GS. My friend came along and half way through we swapped bikes. It's a red 2004 1000ds with the dp windscreen and carbon arrow exhaust.

I finished my ride confused.

True the GS is fast, predictable, ultra comfortable and without a doubt smooth. It is a great long distance bike, it can tear up the twisties with some of the best. Maybe this is why so many love this bike(including me). But with the plush ride comes a sterile, muted feeling that I did not realize was there until I hopped on the MS.

When I got on the multi I started smiling. It was more fun. I don't know why but it felt faster at similar speeds, I wanted to open the throttle wider, I wanted to hang my but off the side, I wanted to...keep riding and smiling. I noticed that the feed back was much better through the turns. The sound of the Ducati twin was intoxicating. The whole experience was more visceral and exciting. So much so that I have been thinking about it all week.

The only gripes I had were an uncomfortable seat, slightly more cramped seat to peg height(I am 6'6") and the front end was less than attractive(not that the GS is any prettier). I here that the seat has been sorted and is more comfortable on more recent models.

So now I am really confused. Should I sell the GS and buy a MS? Wait for the new model in 2010? If only I could have them all.

I have test ridden the Multi once. It was too comfortable for me in the twisties (I had a 999S at the time). I ended up with a brand new RSV Factory...

However, 2 years ago my friend and I were on a tour in the Italian Alps, near Bolzano. From Bolzano we went up to one of the passes there (about 25 km of typical alpine roads). There was this guy with a 1200 GS from Germany. We started off in a good rythm (we hadn't been overtaken before anywhere on the tour. We are riding at about 70-80% max of our abilities as it would be very costly to down the bike a 1000 km from home, etc.).

Anyway, we ended up in a natural competition with this guy. I thought that my friend was behind me, but in a right bend I just noticed a huge handlebar above my left shoulder. To cut it short he chased me for a few kms more and then - after having slipped on some rough stoney surface - I let him go, just before I realized that it was the last turn Smile.

We stopped on the top of the pass and chatted a bit. He was around 50 and rode impressively. He said he lived in the States but kept coming to the Alps every year. When I made a remark about his speed, he just added: I would be a lot faster on my Multistrada...

I think that says it all.
I do acknowledge the GS, by the way.

After much consideration and test riding I ended up with neither. I bought a KTM 950SM instead. I still like the multi though and may someday get one.
