Does anyone know if the ethanol/H2O issues with expanding gas tanks were resolved in the 2009 model year?

...or another way......is the 2009 model year Multi 1100S susceptible to gas tank swelling due to ethanol/H2O issues?

Canadian bike? if so your chances are much better that their is no problem, as ethanol is not as widely used...however there is no guarentee..
I have no problem with my tank , as premium fuel in Alberta is ethanol free for the most part ..with the exception of Mohawk and Husky (green) stations.
Ethanol enhanced fuels seem to be responsible for tank expansion in the USA for ..some .. of the Ducati riders there.
If you are looking at a Multi from the USA or eastern Canada it could be a problem and worth checking out..
The 09 Multis have the same tank and properties as all previous Multis ..so yes they have had expanding tanks aswell.
For one i would not hesitate on purchasing a Multi again, they are a great motorcycle and should not be ignored because of this issue .

'fraid so. Same tank design and mfgr for 2003 - 2009. The material may be different depending on what market, but USA market Multistrada "Classics" are all potential victims of the E10 / H20 infection.

BMW, Aprilia and Triumph are among the other brands that have a history of the same problem.

Several threads on that. Search for Ducati class action settlement.

Yea.....there is lots to read, but it seems confusing. I have read the California class action material and it is interesting, but I do not know how or if any of this relates to Canada.

Any Canadians out there with first hand knowledge on how things are being handled in Canukistan?

Edit. Yep, reread the settlement. Only applies to residents of the US.

Important date coming up for the US members, if you want out of the lawsuit class you send a letter to the lawyers office postmarked by December 27 and opt out of the settlement.

I guess we have to decide if Ducati will take care of us. In my case I am already well past warranty, but Ducati took care of my first replacement with no hesitation. I had it Caswell coated. If I stay in the class settlement I have 18 months extra warranty, then on my own. But, if I opt out they have no responsibility to fix a future tank issue, and I would be hoping for goodwill. I had the Caswell treatment, but what if...

Just curious why anyone would want to "opt" out?

I would guess one would opt out to reserve the option of suing Ducati individually, or to instigate or join any other class action suit that may come along seeking better terms. If you accept the proposed suit as it is, you give up those options.
