Good day to all, first post, wanted to ask some questions.
The prices on the 2003 and 2004 Multi 1000 models are pretty good imo compared to an '05 and newer.
So looking through the differences, I'm wondering if we're looking at simple bolt on fixes? i.e. could I just buy an '05 or newer kickstand, mirrors, seat, windscreen, etc and bolt them right on? I'm very mechanical and not worried about work, just would like to know what I might be getting myself into if I decided to save $2-3k (and more in a couple cases) by just buying a 2003 1000.
Besides the kickstand, I'm also wondering if I shouldn't worry about the seat and just buy an aftermarket from the start (or maybe get a custom one for my short little legs.)
Were there any mechanical or computer differences?
Thank you. |

I've had 03, 04 and 05 1000s and the seat isn't really that bad. Most will have later seats or gel/ DP seats fitted by now anyway.
Ducati released an upgrade kit with mirrors, sidestand, screen, heel plates etc in - I bought one for my first 'Strada. They were cheap but no longer available new. They had standard 04 parts in IIRC.
If I were in your place I'd buy the bits used from ebay and bolt them on an older bike - it's not particularly hard. The seat is the most awkward, the rest is easy. |
