I have a black 1000DS with the grey covers and am considering switching to black ones if i can get them cheap. The dealer wanted $120.
I thought i would try here before just painting mine black. |

Check on the Sport 1000 boards, they come with black covers. Best bet is probably www.ducati.ms in the Sport Classic section. |

$5 can of paint = cheapest aesthetic mod ever!!!
(with the exception of horsepower-adding stickers... ) |

I sprayed mine with a textured black paint from Checker - and that was before heading to Alaska. Looks great and has held up just fine.

Wow, good idea with the textured paint! I like it. I did mine with regular duplicolor flat black on my monster, and it has held up well for 3 years. I'd spend the $5 on the can of paint and take $115 and buy some other mod for your multi... |

Any speed shop or chain auto parts store like Pep Boys, Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, etc. should have it. Ask for "wrinkle paint". |

I use Krylon primer, then a couple coats of flat black and several coats of clear with very nice results that have stood up well to the elements. |

Whoa! Snakeskin cambelt covers? What kind of poser points would you get for that? |

This is the actual can of paint that I used;
I think I sanded the covers lightly with a finishing sand-paper, then laid a very light coat of primer, then a couple coats of this - then let it sit in the hot sun for about an hour before I installed them.
And they turned out great - the Ducati shop even commented on it.

Probably not very well at all - you'd need a heat paint.

I have painted the side covers on both sides of the bike with black duplicolor engine paint with very good success. I've put 2,000 miles on and no trouble yet. |
