Re: Valve Guide Issues on the 1000 & 1100
I did not have Dave at Redline do my guides, but wish I had. I used another shop and regretted it. They're done, but it took a lot of effort to get my heads back and cost more than it ought to have.

Re: Multistrada In an Urban Environment
Simple: my traffic consists of approximately 2-6 miles each way, each day. My commute is a total of around 45 miles. Options for side streets with enjoyable lack of arrow-straightness are there as well for 95% of the trip. So, I have 39-43 miles of non-traffic commuting.

Re: Multistrada In an Urban Environment
'06 1000S here
I commute to the DC area every day, and year-round, including this time of year; I'm on the Multi more often than not. Traffic sucks in my Jeep, it sucks in my wife's automatic Volvo, it sucks driving my parents nice cars. It sucks riding a motorcycle, too, but not as bad.

What they said.
I loved one, bought it, enjoyed it, sold it, and am now considering another.
For me it's between the ST3S or ST4S and an 1100S Multi. Strangley, I find the Multi more attractive.

Re: Long distance rides
It's going to be awesome in comparison.
It needs a new seat. That's the single biggest complaint I had after a weekend last year with somewhere over a 1000 miles.. my ass hurt to levels I couldn't have imagined before the ride. My plan was an Airhawk and a sheepskin seat cover from a company who's ...

Re: Exhaust Smell..............
I most definitely do smell like exhaust after getting off the bike. Always annoyed me, but figured it's just another quirk...
Is this not common, then? I know I've had exhaust leaks often enough that perhaps it's not just the normal tail-end exhaust fumes coming out? It's only a problem when I want ...

Re: seat?
I'm going to be investing in an aftermarket saddle though perhaps not until late winter (no long rides coming up).
My '04 saddle was "good enough" for 2 years and 7k miles... until I did 1200+ miles this past weekend in just under 24 hours... by arse has never hurt so bad - ever. The bike was ...

Re: Buying Used 2004 MTS1000
take it for a test ride...
some folks have complained about the gages (malfunctioning I guess... mine are fine), the kickstand, the brakes (shudder at low speeds)...
I'd say general cleanliness would indicate if it was cared for.
Hell, I'min MD and selling an '04 with only 5k on the clock ...

Re: Can't believe the height
6'-4" 230#... Not huge, but big enough that there are few bikes that are actually comfortable. The MTS was, hands down, the most comfortable unless I were willing to pose aboard a Hardley... I'll have to look into that Ohlins rear, another inch would be nice. :P

Clockwork nailed it... I can't wipe the SE Grin off my face for hours after I get off the bike. :D
Really, it's very simple. And, no, it's not any version of a Beamer. It's a whole new beast. I test rode them nearly back to back. And I went from satisfied, but calm (F650GSDA ...

Re: 2005 1000s DS vs BMW R 1200 GS
It does go both ways. I'm still new enough to riding not to have any real biases, but I'll have fun taking a jab equally at a HD or a KawaYamaHonzuki, and laugh at the Ducati cracks, too. And let's not act like H-D riders are innocent in all this...

Re: 2005 1000s DS vs BMW R 1200 GS
How would I describe a Harley Davidson?
Well, ever seen a really fat American woman? Such as, for instance, the kind you can often see in (
) black leather at Sturgis or other H-D rallies? I'd call a Harley Davidson a Fat Redneck Chick.

Re: 2005 1000s DS vs BMW R 1200 GS
I rode a couple BMWs before the Multistrada - mind you it was a '04 R1150GS and a '04 1000 DS, not the 1200GS v 1000DSS, so for what it's worth.
I was comfortable on the BMW, confident it was a good bike, satisfied that it rode well... Then I rode the Multi. I was grinning like a hooligan, having ...
