I own an 05 "1000S" and was seriously considering trading it for a ST-3S -- until I test-rode the ST!

I really could not get comfortable on the ST, and I did not think that the 3-valve engine was as responsive in the all-important (on the street) midrange.

My opinions (I own an S, but test-drove the Showa model):

1. I was amazed by how well the Showa setup performed. With proper adjustment, it would most likely fill your needs.

2. For $1500 (US), you can get Ohlins performance from the base model (if you need or want it).

PRO: Looks great, nice motor, great brakes
CON: Funky footpeg position (just wrong, worse than my GSXR-1000 with rearsets), poor reliability, suspension just OK, no bags, no wind protection
