Steve,
As a 65 year old retired Army Colonel I can relate to your question. Bottom line: yes, you can do most of the maintenance yourself if you are patient, willing to invest in some basic tools, but ready to concede when getting in over your head. The mechanics are actually fairly simple. LT ...

Re: Valve Guide Issues on the 1000 & 1100
Please share your recommendation where to send heads and what extra up grades to heads that should be done. I'm going to milk as many miles out of stock original heads as possible. Thanks

Re: high maintenance?
You are not going to be able to ride a Ducati for free. I find that my Multi is not much more difficult (read 'expensive') to work on than my very simple BMW 650 thumper. I do almost all the service on each and it's actually easier to change the oil, check the battery, adjust the chain, or change ...

I know of a Leo Vince that is excess but it's for a 1000 so there is no bung for the O2 sensor. The price could be attractive. PM me.

Re: Is The MS 1200 Touring S really the right bike for me?
Update: Recently talked to a Ducati trained tech (trained for the 1200) and he said that it's actually much easier to check/adjust the valve clearances on the 1200 than the 1000/1100. That should keep the cost down.

Make sure you look this gift horse in the mouth.....that is, check it over very carefully. There is a reason why the price is so low and it probably is not just the upcoming deployment.

Re: Is The MS 1200 Touring S really the right bike for me?
I think the valves on the 1200 are only checked every 15K miles and you change the belts then too. If you are doing the valves there is almost no additional labor to change the belts...some shops take the belts off to make the valve check easier. Thus the question to ask is how much is involved in ...

Re: What would you pay ?
No doubt that this is a buyers market. Maybe the first thing to think about is what bike will make you happy in 12-24 months time. No matter what you get you will be riding it for quite a while since a multi year old bike with lower mileage is still just that. It's not a virgin any more. Once you ...

Re: 2008 S Pricing Logic
Contact the guy who has a 2008 1100S for sale in CT. He was asking $8900 for a low mileage bike with all the bags and some other extras....what a screaming deal...and with 18 months of waranty left. Look in the Forums for his contact info. I'd snap this up myself except for the fact that I'm totally ...

Re: Long distance rides
The stock seat works fine for me now that I have learned to slip back until my ass hits the passenger hump. This puts more of my thigh on the seat and thus distributes the load better. My Renthal bars have more sweep than OEM so my wrists are no longer the limiting factor for a long ride. Last ...

Mirror/turn signal....left side
Listees,
I suddenly need a left side mirror/turn signal. Actually, I just need the stalk but I'll be happy to buy the whole assembly. Heck, if you have the right side I'll take that too just to have a spare. And to think that all I was doing was trying to adjust the mirror......with the motor ...
