I happen to own both the 1200GS and a '04 Multistrada. They are very different bikes but both very good. I don't think, overall, you will get an unbiased opinion in this forum. And rightfully so; we are Multistrada enthusiast here. Go the GS website and you will get the opposite opinion.

There are several of us on this site who have traded thier GC's for Multistradas. As similar as I thought the bikes would be, they are completley different.

I think the MS would be the bike. Have you seen the DL 1000 in person? It's huge, and doesn't look to be very nimble for city driving. I came from a Cagiva Gran Canyon, which has similar traits as the MS: upright riding, air cooled V, etc. The MS represents a modern evolution of that bike.
