In case anyone is interested, the answer is . .
Multistrada. The 1100 variety. More on this as winter lumbers toward spring. A two-bike family - 1984 VF750F and a MTS: what could be better? Two generations, two different technological eras. Don't get confused on which era-bike you're riding, tho. Pull on the MTS brakes like you're on the '84 Honda, and it's an uncontrolled stoppie fur sure.

apologies for the necro thread, but I figure I'd add another opinion, for the future researchers as I have a new to me MST 1100s.
I have an Aprilia RST 1000 (Futura) which I bought over the ST3 years ago, but none the less, it's the sport tourer that led me to the MTS. and they are pretty much alike when it comes to aero at high speeds and more stilted handling at low speeds.
so I'm older and my reflexes are slower, I get stiffer faster. the Ape was stupid fast, and loud because it wasn't running stock pipes. I picked up the MTS to be more comfortable, (I'm about to put a gel seat on it though to make it even more comfy). the more forward position of the Aprilia, essentially got to my wrists and knees, and limited my saddle time. sure the seat was super comfy, but I couldn't be on the bike for extended times any longer without anguish and a desire to stop. The MTS solved that for me, the upright position, and raised bars have enabled me to get more than two hours on the bike before I started suffering. There's a Zero Gravity screen, hand guards and heated grips, so I'm practically on a gold wing. And the 1100s is still well able to respond to my wrist twisting desires. I don't know how many riders are looking at 20 year old MTS any longer, but if you are, I'd get one over the ST3. (now if you really want ABS, then get a ST3s with ABS.... or a much newer bike)
best regards
BTW,, the Ape would get comments, but only after people ask, "what's that?". The attention seems more about the oddity. My 1100s, gets compliments from random people walking by it straight for its looks.
