Considering a choice between a 2005 model S with Ohlins and a standard DS.

Is the difference really noticeable?

Do you really have to be pushing it to feel the difference or does it really transform the bike?

For me yes, the S is worth it, My first Multi was a DS the second a S DS, I know it personal but I find the S DS just more setlled on the road, it looks better, and they tend to sell on easier in the used market

If you can afford it, buy the "S". You couldn't buy the components for anywhere near what Ducati's charging for them. If you can't afford it, I'm sure the Showa components are competant.

Yes. I did the practical thing and got a hold over non-S model. I figured the money I saved could upgrade the bike. Wellllll.....I now have a bike that is arguably better than an S model - but I spent way more than an S model would have cost me. Great deal.

I know there're some folks out there who find they just can;t get the S model's suspension set up properly for them and wonder if the standard model could have been better for them. I'm sure there are some posts on the matter here somewhere.

Man, that Öhlins suspension is really awesome!!!!!!
If I were you, i wouldn't hesitate. The extra price is a fraction
off what you should pay for aftermarket stuff. And yes, it's really, really worth it!

Ace, can you still get an S model in Australia?

I bought a Red 1000S DS August 26th, and was told at the time it was the last one available in Australia, and that there was only one black one left. NP, the importers didn't have any more. I suppose there could be stock at the various dealers though, that I wasn't told about.

Anyway, I can't tell you if the Öhlins are better, 'cos that's all I've had, but I bought the S just for them, and improved resale value, you I ever want to do that. The Öhlins do stick to the ground pretty well.

Regardless, if there are none available, your decision is made, unless you wait for NF Importers to get the 1100S into Australia. I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

What was the deal you got, the base price of the bike.

Did you get the deal with the panniers, or rego and on roads etc.

Yeah, NF Importers can be difficult.
One thing i can say though, i had a 93 900SS that i bought second hand a few years ago. The rear swingarm developed a crack under the chain guard. Well well out of warranty, by about 10 years, but, they gave me a new swingarm, just paid for labour to put new one in. Go figure.
Although it was the day after Ducati got onto the podium for the first time in motoGP so i think Ducati Italy was feeling very happy with itself.

I didn't really get a base price, I just started with RRP (plus promotion stuff), gave them a list of accessories to go with it then negotiated from there. What I got is explained in this thread: http://www.multistrada.net/forum/viewto ... ght=#53530

I see from that thread that my memory isn't the best, as there were no black 1000S's back then either. Are you buying one off a shop floor?

I got the free one year WQBE insurance, Rego, CTP and Stamp Duty deal that was offered to the end of August. Panniers only came with the 1000DS model. Theoretically paid the dealer Pre-Delivery of around $350, but as I wanted a 2006 model, and wasn't told they were not available, I got another $1000 plus a $150 gift voucher off the price before signing anything. Total $25,000, as per the thread above.

I like the panniers, and use the top box all the time, like a bike boot.

PS: I also like the handle bars of the S DS, and the carbon belt covers look much better.
