If you're interested in buying a Multistrada, this is the place to post questions about the bike.

Well, the whole thing started when I made the mistake of going to a stealer and looking at the new bikes, even though I swore I wouldn't...we know how that works, don't we?

I wanted a MS, the price is marked down, the only thing in the way was selling my 900SS/SP which has been done, so now I could go get a MS but in the meantime I went and looked at the Buell Ulysses again, even took it for a test ride. I'm trying to decide which bike I want to get and figured that you guys could pitch the Ducati more.

Why the MS? It's a Ducati! The 900SS was my starter Duc, and did the job very well. I got back on my Pegaso last night after getting it back together and obviously I did something wrong, surely the Peg couldn't be this flat in comparison? Oh, it still handles nice and nimble but it sures feels like a tractor after the Duc-maybe I put the wrong wieght of diesel in the tank. I've had other fast bikes before, but the difference never seemed this pronounced. The MS may be tall but it's not as tall as the Uly, it's lighter by a bit (25lbs) but it's way down on raw HP compared to the Uly, 103 vs 63. OTOH, the Uly usable powerband is pretty narrow, figure 2000 to 5000, at 6500 the Uly is redlining where the SS was just getting serious. Some folks have reported that the newer 620's are similar powerwise to the older 750's, and my kids 2001 750 SS sure seemed plenty peppy, thoughts anyone?

The Uly has the power advantage in raw numbers, has one of the best seats on a bike, has that cool triple tail. The muffler serves as a great skid plate. The maintenence on the Uly is pretty much change the oil and check the drive belt. It's also about $1500 more than the MTS.The MTS 1000 is $3500 more and I don't feel like spending that much on a bike right now.

I do mostly weekend/evening riding and enjoy blasting down the occasional gravel road. I've taken the Pegaso down trails that were beyond the intended use  but don't plan to do that with either the Uly or MS, and am thinking of selling the Peg and getting something more trailworthy anyway....

Mostly solo, occasional pillion.

I'm especially interested in Pegaso vs MS comparisons....there are at leats a couple of Pegaso pilots here, unusual to have more than one Pegaso guy per forum!

Has anybody managed to knock a hole in the oil filter? Is there a guard available for that?

Thanks for reading my long winded winding post and looking forward to getting flamed.

Cheers

Why compare the 1200cc Uly with the 620cc Multi? Compare it to the Multi 1000.

Buell Ulysses......103 hp ?
Only in your dreams !!!!!
84 hp on a good day, mabey.

Sorry I can't help out here, as I'm not one to bash other brands that some people may be fond of.

My only productive responce...........get the Multi and enjoy.

I had an 883 sportster that I had converted to a 1200 using Buell Thunderstorm parts. I was carburated, not FI. It Dyno tested at 92 rear wheel horsepower. It was not really usable horsepower due to the vibration, but the Uly has rubber mounts so it should be usable.

92 rear wheel would equate close to 103 at the crank.

I too am interested in the same two or three bikes. Rode the Ulysess yesterday. Didn't like the shake at idle, or the fact that my knees hit the tank/frame on downshifts. I'm 6'2". Was riding one with the taller seat. The lowered seat was a worse ride. Knees were riding on the tank. Anyway, I rode a Tiger shortly after that and the Buell became history. Very smooth. The decision was now between the Tiger and the MTS 1100 & 620. I'm going down to ride the 620 in a few minutes. My feeling is, with all things considered, especially price, that the 620 will be the winner. From what I've read here on this forum the 620 is plenty adequate. My current ride is a '90 Transalp and it only has 50hp. Hope this helps.

Let us know how the test ride went.

Really, you can't go wrong with Ducati... anything! :). If the 620 fits you, and gives you the ooomph you need... go for it! You won't be sorry.

Went and rode the 620. As much as I wanted a Multistrada, 620 or 1100, I bought a non-ABS, black Tiger. The 620 was too buzzy, doesn't have the low end of the 1100 (although I've only riden the 1000) and doesn't absorb bumps well. The dealer said the 1100 would feel similar in the fact that it does have a more sporty ride than the Tiger. I remember the 1000 feeling that way. Don't get me wrong. When you hit a bump with the Ducati the bump is absorbed very quickly, it's just that you feel it too much, IMO. The main factors for choosing the Tiger were it's smooth ride, low end torque, it's improved looks over previous years models and hopefully down the road I'll realize some cost reduction in maintenance (although that wasn't much of a factor in my decision). I would like to thank all of those who helped me in my research and I hope that this may in some way help others with their decision.

Thanks,
