When I seriously started shopping last fall I wanted, like a kid at the candy store, a Hypermotard more than any other bike. But after I survived the impulse I realized I needed something more practical for commuting and a little light distance riding.
Short list was the Multi & Versys. Multi has the sexy Italian styling, Ducati branding, litre power, world famous handling and riding position. Celebrated as a great overall bike!
But wait a minute... I could buy 2 Versys for the price of one Multi. On paper it looked like such a good value I really couldn't justify the expense of the Multi, much less justify it to my wife. Every review I read about the Versys loved it. I sat on a Versys at the dealer, they didn't do test rides, and it felt fine. The front was funky but there are plenty of opinions about MTS styling too. But the intangibles are powerful. As noted above there just wasn't much special about it.
We're not the types to buy and flip through cars, houses or even motorcycles so I knew I'd be with whatever I got for a while. So I decided the novelty of the Ducati brand and the performance & styling of the MTS was the better choice for me. I'm glad I did. I found a good deal on exactly the model I wanted. I love to ride it and look at it. I enjoy the conversations it generates. It has a character that I like to think reflects some of mine.
