I have a black 1000DS with the grey covers and am considering switching to black ones if i can get them cheap. The dealer wanted $120.
I thought i would try here before just painting mine black.

Check on the Sport 1000 boards, they come with black covers. Best bet is probably www.ducati.ms in the Sport Classic section.

I sprayed mine with a textured black paint from Checker - and that was before heading to Alaska. Looks great and has held up just fine.

Wow, good idea with the textured paint! I like it. I did mine with regular duplicolor flat black on my monster, and it has held up well for 3 years. I'd spend the $5 on the can of paint and take $115 and buy some other mod for your multi...canyonchaser wrote:I sprayed mine with a textured black paint from Checker - and that was before heading to Alaska. Any speed shop or chain auto parts store like Pep Boys, Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, etc. should have it. Ask for "wrinkle paint".tkjacobs wrote:You said you could find the paint at CHeckers? i live in NC and dont know that shop could the paint be purchased at a wall mart or home depot type of place?

I use Krylon primer, then a couple coats of flat black and several coats of clear with very nice results that have stood up well to the elements.

This is the actual can of paint that I used;

I think I sanded the covers lightly with a finishing sand-paper, then laid a very light coat of primer, then a couple coats of this - then let it sit in the hot sun for about an hour before I installed them.
And they turned out great - the Ducati shop even commented on it.

Probably not very well at all - you'd need a heat paint.tweake wrote:i was thinking about painting the motor on my multi black like the older super sports . wonder how that paint would hold up for that .

I have painted the side covers on both sides of the bike with black duplicolor engine paint with very good success. I've put 2,000 miles on and no trouble yet.tweake wrote:i was thinking about painting the motor on my multi black like the older super sports . wonder how that paint would hold up for that .
