Hi guys, I'm in the process of changing my front sprocket, but having a bit of a problem unhooking the chain to remove the sprocket, is it possible to do this with the chain in situ or do I need to split it .If so is it possible to use a link to reuse the chain, or do I need to replace that as well.
Thanks
Gareth

if you are only replacing the front sprocket you do not have to split the chain.
loosen the chain as much as possible should do the trick.

There are other posts detailing this proceedure, do a search. You'll have to loosen the chain all the way, and even pull it off the rear sprocket to get enough slack to pull the chain off the counter shaft sproket. Some even report pulling off the clutch slave cylinder to ease access. Even if you pull the slave cylinder, you don't have to lose any fluid. You do not have to break the chain.

Thanks guys, it seems a bit tight but if it can be done I'll persevere without splitting the chain.

It can be done and in fact it's much easier than it sounds. Just do as the guys already advised and you'll be fine.

P.S: just in case you have time to spent, I'd suggest you also spend some time to clean the front sprocket area at the same time. It's probably the most dirty place on the bike and we tend to forget about it since it ain't visible
