I've been looking at a 2004 1000DS I ran into with 25k miles that I'm interested in buying. Anyone have any advice for what to look out for on this bike? I haven't been on a Ducati in a couple years. I've previously had an ST3 and a Monster. I did my own wrenching on both those. So, wondering if there were any quirks on this year/model MTS that I should be aware of? Thanks!

Welcome aboard and spend a bit of time scanning through the air cooled section. If this bike has been well maintained most likely you'll be good to go.

Thanks for the warm welcome @moby34. And thanks for the direction. I'll read up more on air cooled.

Just look the body panels over closely for signs of fuel tank expansion. As you may be aware, the plastic tanks used on the Multi expanded (lengthwise) due to ethanol fuel. Not a deal breaker, as the expansion does stop, but some are worse than others. As the fuel tank expands, it tries to push the other body panels out of position. Check the gap on the two rear panels above the tail light, and check to see if the "glove box" on the right side will open and re-latch easily.

I decided no on this one, FYI. It was filthy and the guy had no idea how old the belts were, etc.

Yep, that's not a good sign. There will be others to choose from sooner or later.
