I'm seriously looking at a Multistrada but some of the postings here have me a bit concerned...vis...front brake, quality of finish, instrument pod problemo.
Please give me your unbiased opinion, is this bike a lemon that Ducati have pushed into production?
They look to me a bloody good bike (in the shop) but costy $$$$ more than a Triumph 955i Tiger which is another choice for me. Me I'm trading up from an R100GS.
My needs for a motorcycle are: more get up and go! Sexiness! Economy! Good brakes! Handles! The multistrada looks to me as if it fulfills that wish list until I read many comments on this site.
Crikey there's even a new R1200GS out on the block now.....
you have a hard decission to do.....R1200GS must be the "hyperbike" if you believe to the press.....Latest "Motorrad", one of the most popular motocycle magazines in Germany, tested it and the result is "hyper....."
Tiger 955i is a, lets say, huge "British Steel" with an interesting engine an high potential to invest in the fork an the rear suspension. The Multi, in my opinion, is completely different. You´ll love her or you´ll hate her. If you want a "perfekt" bike without any emotional touch, buy the BMW.
Go for a testride with all three. But be careful, MTS is a drug...and a "Diva".
I think nobody can really help you. Try it.
Thanks for that Lutz, I'm sort of suspicious of media tests on any bikes, usually the journos have been wined and dined by the companies supplying the test bikes. I'd be tempted to write good things about the R1200GS if I'd been flown around the world and passed the keys for a test whirl. If you wrote bad things it's likely you wouldn't be invited back to the next launch party!
Hey I'm also nervous of chain drive my last experience being a rubber chain stretching Yamaha TT500 way back when. Swore I'd never bother with the dirty things again which is why I'm on a GS presently.

P.S: majority of the problems are only minor and if your dealer is a good one, you'll probably never notice most of them.
P.S 2: The new BMW1200GS might well be the new "hyper" bike from what I've read/heard so far, but 2500 euros more expensive and a totaly different concept from what MTS is all about IMHO.
