Thinking about upgrading my KLR650 to either a Multistrada or a Triumph Tiger, mainly so I'll have a better commuter bike and more power. Not doing as much off road as I thought when I bought the KLR and the single doesn't give much umph when at speed or provide as refined of ride and cargo capacity as I want to commute with. What are the dimensions of the side panniers for the Multi? Also how much are they? I would want to fit a laptop briefcase in the side bags when commuting so I don't have to have the big tail bag behind me (also, I think the side panniers look really sweet on the Multi, or at least as sweet as cases can look). There aren't any dimensions on the Ducati site. It shows storage of a helmet, but the dimensions look angled and cause concern over a laptop case.
As far as the bikes go, the Tiger would still give me better flexibility for fireroad excursions and moto camping but the Multi seems to be hands down the better bike and would beat the Tiger on the pleasure factor.
Any insight would be appreciated.

How big is your laptop?
I just tried my daughter's old iBook, it would certainly fit- but I'd want to have some serious padding. It won't fit flat, you have to angle it so some is in the 'bike side' of the bags, some away.

I have the 34's and can fit my Thinkpad T42 in a very slim case ONLY and at an angle. My std laptop bag, which I don't think is too bulky, won't make it.
My commute is short so I usually throw the bag over my head. For a longer ride I have to put the laptop in one side (in a slim bag) and wedge in the rest of my bag in the other.

Not to hijack this thread, but WHERE can a guy get the 28L side cases? I don't want/need the bigger bags. The smaller/thinner bags look better and would handle my needs. Do they even MAKE the 28L's any more? (Do you buy 34L's and replace the lids to make them into 28L's?)
Confused.

I've heard you can still buy the 28L lids, but I don't know if that is true.
I wouldn't mind having a set, but probably won't spend the cash. If riding two up, we need all the space possible!

Give me the dimensions of your laptop and I will try it. I have 4 laptops of various sizes from really small to a good sized Dell that I can try. I can also take some measurements.
If you have a compact laptop (like a 12 or 13 inch PowerBook) it will probably fit if in a small case, but a large 15 inch Dell probably wouldn't.

Just logging back in tonight. My PC is 12" by 10.5" (Dell Lattitude D610). The briefcase bag I'm using right now is 16" wide by 13" tall, but I've got a smaller one that is 14" x 12" that I've used on the KLR (tied down with bungies).
Appreciate the help!
