Hold out for the new Triumph Daytona 675!
I have longer than average legs and the Multistrada was easier on my knees, but it actually hurt my lower back. On a sport bike the weight is off your back, but the knees are cramped. On the Multi with an upright seating position, all the weight is now ...

Re: Conflicted
Suspension is the best upgrade you can ever make to a bike, period. The Ohlins will ride like a Cadillac and handle like a Ferrari. If you aren't the type to upgrade your bikes, don't worry about it, but if you are, just buy the "S". For $1500 more you are getting about $500 worth of carbon fiber ...

Re: Ducati #2
I don't think you find dual sport tires to fit those wheels.
That is the main problem. This bike has the same wheels as the superbikes and they just don't make dualsport tires in that size. Plus, even if you did compare the bike the the BMW GS (I'm not sure how, they are nothing alike) the Ducati ...

Re: Ducati #2
You'd better read all the reviews of this machine closer. It is in no way designed to go off road, period. It has streetbike wheels and tires. The "DS" designation on the bike doesn't stand for "dual sport". The DS stands for "dual spark" as in the engine uses 2 spark plugs per cylinder. If you want ...

Re: 05 DS1000S vs. VFR
I'm not sure what you're talking about. Vtec is a variable valve timing system. On the VFR it runs on 2 valves per cylinder up to 6k rpm, then switches to 4 valves/cylinder hydraulically. The problem is, the bike gives quite a jolt when it transitions into 4 valve operation. I was always watching ...

Re: 05 DS1000S vs. VFR
I guess I'm the minority then. I did own a Vtec VFR, as did a riding buddy of mine. We both sold ours mainly due to the abruptness of the VTEC system, and I've heard from others who hated it too.
Now, if you are just commuting in town, then yes, the Multi will be much better than the VFR. You sit ...

Re: 05 DS1000S vs. VFR
It sounds like you are a victim more of incompetent dealers than the fact that an MTS is inherently "unreliable". I've owned a several Ducatis, and 99% of the time, they're fine until someone who doesn't know what they're doing starts to mess with them. That includes fixing minor repairs.

Re: 05 DS1000S vs. VFR
I had a 2003 VFR w/staintune pipes and it sounded awesome. My only gripe was the Vtec, which I hated. The nice thing about the VFR is it always started, idled, and ran perfect, I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a long ride. While it may have lacked soul, it was reliable.

Re: Not so sure about my S4R........
I wondered what you were talking about when you said you bought the S4R with your trade and a little money and the Multi would have taken a little "more" money.
As to the sprocket, you are wrong. I'm not talking about the sprocket at the wheel. I'm talking about the countersprocket, the one off the ...

Re: Not so sure about my S4R........
Sounds similar to the Multi in two areas. The motor on the multi is happiest at about 5k rpm too. And, like most Ducatis, the Multi is geared too high from the factory too. Put a new countersprocket on that is one tooth smaller and it will help.
How about selling the S4R and getting a used Multi ...

Re: Big & Tall Riders
The Falco didn't hurt my back at all. I have such long legs that after extended rides (oh, about 45 minutes or so) my knees would kill me on the Falco.

Re: Big & Tall Riders
I'm 6'2", 215lbs and find the Multistrada the only comfortable "sportbike". The only problem I have is a bit of a bad back and the upright riding position strains my lower back over time.
