Never had a Ducati I'm looking at buying an '06 1000s.

It had full service recently with replaced belts, filters, lube etc and appears to be in great condition with some nice bits added on.

The price is around $8500 which seems reasonable but I'm worried about the mileage.

its got 20K on it. Anybody have any experience with high mileage Multistradas?

Why do you consider that to be high mileage? If it is well cared for, as it appesars to have been, that is nothing. It's all set up for you to ride and enjoy.

You might express concern about the mileage as a negotiating tool, but don't worry about it. I have that same bike....16,000 miles, I usually keep my bikes up to 100,000 miles or so, and I see no reason the Multi won't make it there.

Good luck on the buy, you'll love that bike.

I bought an 04 1000 about a year and a half ago with 15k mi on it and have since put another 10k on it. It has been very reliable so far and it has been properly maintained. I would think for that price you could find a much lower mileage bike.

No specific Multi experience, but know of plenty of people with >50K on their Monsters, and a few with greater than 100K. Same basic engine design. The Duc 2-valve motors are very reliable as long as they're taken care of.

I have 31k on my 2006 model. I had the valve guide problem and now have a warped fuel tank. Both of these are known issues and were done under warrantyl.

Aside from the warranty issues I have had no problem with the bike at all. I full on plan on putting 100k on mine. As was pointed out, the motor is as simple as they come and they don't rev high so they are not under a lot of stress.

Good luck and don't let the mileage scare you away.

Mines got 23000 miles on it, and after a couple thorough services its fitter than when I bought it at 1000 miles.

Look after it and it'll be fine

I would check to see if it had the valve guide problem for that engine #.

I have almost 20k on my 2005 and it runs great!

Thanks for all the responses. It's mine! '06 1000s.

It's been well maintained, I am the 3rd owner with all previous and current owners service records from Great Bay and BCM. Valves and guides where replaced last fall with belts and new tires.

Tires have lots of little life left although the front shows some blue.

the rest of it...

Chris,
Congrats on the purchase - I think you will love the bike. I'm definitely sad to see her go.
This is a great forum as well - lots of great information and very friendly/helpful people too.

Thanks David,

No problems coming back except for the fact that I wasn't actually riding the bike. Now I get to stare at the beast and imagine how much fun I'm going to have riding it when the roads clear!!

Give me a call if you ever find yourself riding through my neck of the woods (Rt 110 is pretty good)

Hope to see you again sometime.
