Hi Ducati people, I have secretly worshipped at your alter for years while doing the harley thing(no laughing now, my fxrt has 275000km)Anyway, I have become smitten with the multistrada and I have a few questions. There are none up here that I have had a chance to sit on much less take for a ride, so I need to know if anyone out there is close to my size and can offer an opinion(6ft5in, 280LBS)on how the bike fits them. Also, Any Canadian riders out there with a used(up till,say.2005)MTS1000 for sale? I am not all that familiar with bringing stuff across the border and the only dealer in town charges a surcharge(500.00)to work on U.S spec bikes.

Welcome,

Can't help you with the size/weight question but I did import my bike from the US and I can tell you that the process really isn't that bad.

All the info that you need can be found on the RIV (registrar of Imported Vehichles) website. The actual importation cost is about $200 which includes the necessary physical inspection (not a saftey) fee if done at a Canadian Tire store. I didn't need to get my bike a safety because it was brand new, if you bought a used one, you might. The safety is required by the license bureau, not the RIV.

As far as us specs, not too sure about that. I think the multistrada is a north american import and the canadain and us versions are the same bike. There was nothing that needed to be done to my bike on importation, just switch the odometer to km instead of miles, which was a press of a button.

Good luck!

I'm sure that they are the same bike, the problem is that our local dealer(who also deals in Beemers and Yamaha's)arbitrarily puts a 500 dollar"paperwork charge" on any bike bought from the States and then brought in for service. I guess with the strong dollar they are seeing sales disappear and this is thier way of discouraging it.

That can't be a sanctioned practice??

If they are part of the DNA dealership network, then it may be worth writing to DNA about it...

BMW is backing them up on it(according to the dealer) not sure about Ducati. Many of the manufacturers have forbidden their dealers(cars, bikes, sleds, campers etc)from selling to Canadian buyers to avoid the obvious effect on the Canadian dealers. Whether or not there is an actual issue or percieved doesn't seem to matter.

Hi jroon,

I have a '04 1000 DS.....I'm 6'7" and 270lbs. The bike fits awesome. Here's what I've done for fit........handlebar risers (1" up and 1" back), mirror extensions (kicks them out about 2"), and I'm still fooling around with windscreens. Many of the taller riders just stay with the stock windscreen. I can tell you that the DP comfort screen is junk!!!! I have not made any adjustments to the suspension yet. Get the bike!!!! What a thrill!!!

I have an 06 1000S .....I am 6'2" and weight 225 lbs. What I found was the suspension is right for someone about 160lbs but did not handle well for me at 225 lbs. I had GMD Computrack in Atlanta tune the suspension for me which included changing both fork and rear shock springs and it made a huge difference in handling. At your weight you might want to consider different springs as well.

It is a very enjoyable ride. After many, many others it is the best ride I have ever owned.

Hey Gents, thanks for the replies, that's great info, I should probably budget for springs and maybe a revalve on the rear shock. I am definitely getting one of these things, I can't find anyone with too much bad to say except for the maintenance, and I'm a handy sort so it shouldn't be a big deal.
Thanks again
JR
