I've found a new (6 miles on the clock) MTS620 and the dealer's asking $7300. Is that a good price? It's a 2006 red, but I'm really searching for a yellow MTS620. I've yet to find them anywhere. Any thoughts? What year is yellow, just 2005?

I've ridden a MTS1000 and absolutely adored it. Will I be happy with a 620? I will do 99% of my riding commuting on straight highways and streets (north Texas does that to you). I'm also looking for a top case. Of course, the MTS1100S in black is my dream!

Also, is there rumor of a MTS695 similar to the new Monster? I don't want to buy a 2 year old bike if a new one is around the corner.

You should be very pleased with the 620. I picked up my 06), (yellow) bike in mid Feb and have accumulated a little over 2000 mile on the bike so far, with my longest day a little over 400 miles.

THe bike has plenty of power. Interstate @80-85, no problem. Fuel mileage is great, and I routinely see figures around 60 mpg.
I think $7300 is a great price for a new 620! You will get a 2 year warantee and the piece of mind that goes with it. You can find used examples fro a low of around 5,00 to an average of about 6500.

Many of these are in need of major dealer service, which can cost up to $600-$700, depending on your dealer. (ASK HIM HOW MUCH BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE DEAL).

I have several bikes and was looking for a lightweight, fun machine I could I could take short trips and then try some fire trails with. So far the bike has exceeded my expectations in every way.

Nozz,
That's within a cheesburger of what I paid for mine about this time last year. I bought it from a friend who was quitting riding. Wife had triplets and work was sending him on the road a lot. The bike had about 400 miles on it, and he threw in a bunch of other stuff, but the price you're being quoted sounds reasonable, especially with single digit mileage. You do need to talk maintenance though. I'm told the first three are the most important for longevity of the bike, and there's that whole good relations with the dealer should you need help in a pinch. You'll enjoy the bike.

Unless what you "adored" about the 1000 was its greater horsepower and torque, there's no reason to doubt you'll be delighted with the 620. Who knows, you might even like it more.

If you ask me, you're lucky to have found a red 620.
They aren't getting any newer or easier to find, that's for sure! Besides, there will ALWAYS be newer models, but until they start running on fuel cells or nuclear power, they won't make 2-year-old models obsolete.

The price is very fair and a good deal. Seriously, what are you waiting for?

Get a 14T front sprocket right away.
You'll love the 620!

Yes, I've found a red MTS620, but now the dealer's being cagey with the price. I think it makes the most fiscal sense (or cents) to go for the MTS620 vs. an MTS1000/1100. I do prefer the SSSA, but then again, I'm doing mostly commuting. Yellow I hear is faster... But the new red comes with a warranty, which calms the mind.

As for the dealer, I'm about 2.5 hours away from the nearest one, so that makes it difficult to drop by and let them sort out some kind of bug. How reliable has the MTS620 been?

Any news on a MTS695? Or something similar?

I have ~6,500 miles on my red '06 620, for which I paid $7,000 plus tax license and setup a year ago. So you're in the zone there. I think the 620 is an incredible value. It's been an awesome bike. Super reliable. I think (from what I've heard and read on this list, anecdotally only) it's more reliable than the 1000 Multis, maybe the 1100s too. Fewer niggling problems anyway. Great mileage, really sweet motor. I use it mainly for urban commuting, with the occasional road trip. It's great for both.

Don't change out the sprocket 'till you ride it for a while, especially if you're going to be doing a lot of highway miles. I got a 14T with the intention of plopping it in there, based on what everyone said here. But after maybe 600 miles, the motor got broken in and loosened up, I got used to the clutch (which is VERY nice, by the way) I decided I like the stock set-up fine. I'd rather modulate the clutch in slow traffic if need be than run higher rpms on the highway.

When I was shopping for this bike I rode an 1100S. I had ridden the 1000S before. Both felt a lot rougher to me than the 620. Makes sense, with pistons that are 40% smaller. I prefer the feel of the 620, and have rarely wished I had more power. (Maybe a few dodgy passes on mountain roads where another 15 hp would have been nice, but better judgement on my part would minimize that need....)

Edit: No chance on the 695 Multi. I personally think it'd be a great bike, especially if they made an "S" version! But many of us here have written to Ducati and the word is that it's not happening. Anything can change I guess. There will be a new Multi design in '09 though. I keep hoping it'll be more of a dual sport....but that's pretty unlikely.

the reliability of the 620 is superb. if you search the forum, you'll see the majority of issues deal with the 1100/1000 models. i can't guarentee that you'll have a trouble free experience, but i can say that chances are you will ;-)

one of the reasons why i wanted the 620 was beacause i figured ducati had been making the 620 monster for a number of years which meant engine parts were plentiful and the majority of bugs had been sorted out.

the 620 is an awesome bike, esp if you don't feel the need for a 1 liter beast.

Reliability - 27000km (17000 miles) in 18 months, only problem is the tyres keep wearing out
As for horse power i find the trick is not to ride anything more powerful and you will be very happy. Just back from Australia where we hired BMW F650's for 10 days - they felt very slow with wooden brakes initially but after couple of days we got used to them and enjoyed the riding - of course the multi felt extra good once i got home.

2006 Red out of Oklahoma City OK BMW/Ducati w/12 mi. I think they still might have a 620 Dark. Call Randy Davison. Sorry, I don't have the number handy. Tell him I'm still waiting for my 14T front sprocket to arrive. Gale Carlson.

Gale,

I'm confused. What did you mean about the red MTS620 from OKC BMW/Ducati? Is that the one for sale?
