I can understand if I was looking at a demo superbike that there is probably a concern that at least some of the "test" riders could have abused the bike. There have even been some post that went so far as to say that demo models should be avoided like the plague. Is this true with the Multistrada?

They will come with the same 2 year (from date of puchase) warantee that the others come with. Usually have less than 1500 miles and might just be a better choise than a bike with no miles.

Any manufacturing bugs should be sorted out by then.

Just one line of thinking. Usually a much better price! All that adds up for me, I would go for it.

I bought mine as a former "demo" bike with 8000km on the clock, and it had suffered a left-side drop.

When I picked it up the left side had been repaired /repainted (done properly!), mirror replaced, bolt plugs (the little plastic frame-cover things) had been replaced, and the two-year warranty started the day I drove off the lot.

I've since put a smidge under 20k km on the bike, keeping up with the regular maintenance schedule, and have not had any problems (knock on wood). It was well worth the ~$6000 CDN I saved over a new 'S' model!!

I think it comes down to the dealership when you're buying a bike from the demo fleet. Do you trust them? Do you think they'll try to be stingy on warranty claims? How does the bike look BEFORE you buy it - brake pads, tires, scuffs, scars, etc...

Personally, I'd buy another demo bike from my dealership without a second thought.

I think a Multi x demo is a good buy... not really a hooligans bike after all.....
Here in the UK the 2 year warranty would have started from the 'new' date, not when you buy it!!!

The dealer is the only game in town. They seem to be well respected. They have a loyal following and they've been very patient and respectful to me. Bottom line is that I have no issues with the dealer from a customer perspective.
Let see if I have my US/CAN conversions correct. The bike had 5,000 miles on it and you saved $5900.00 off the price of a new one. The one I'm looking at has 1500miles on the odometer, and they're knocking off $3600.00 from the price as new in '07 Compared to an '08 the savings is about $4200.00. For an '09 its $4700.00. They're sticking me for the 600 mile service which I have mixed feelings about. They're selling me the Termi slip ons which are already on the bike at cost which could be construed as another $500.00 savings. I guess it's a good deal. Unlike automobiles the dealer cost and incentives on motorcycles are not public knowledge. So you never really know. You can drive yourself bonkers trying to figure out every angle.

Sounds reasonable considering the mileage and the Termis.

I find it odd that they're charging you for 600 miles service though... This should have been completed already! How can they charge you back for work that should have been done 1000 mile ago?

Just make sure you get the "out the door" price so you're not surprised by any additional dealer "fees".

There is no way to predict how people have demo'ed the bike based on model, to many the Multi is a hooligan bike and then
I've seen 1098s with huge 3" chicken strips on the tires that obviously have not been used at all. Some people ascribe to breaking in a bike "hard"
and in that case it doesn't matter at all as long as the maintenance is done properly.
If you trust the dealer I would base it more on that than guessing how the bike was used.

The 600mi service should have been done as stated. Call them on the carpet about this. Question the quality of how they've maintained "your" bike if it wasn't done. It shouldn't be more than a couple hundred $$ so save that as your last resonable request and then...

BUY THE DAMN THING AREADY!!! :D

I mentally flip flopped on mine so much I was ready to forget the whole thing about 10 times. If your not rolling in cash and hate spending a penny more on major purchases than you must (like me), then flip the coin and make the best of it. "We can't change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand."

BTW, if you want to sell it a week after you get it you won't get what you paid for it

Yep, I bought my 620 as an ex-demo with 2200 miles on it but had no factory warranty as it was over 2 years old. It had a few scrapes and obviously hadn't been loved as a private bike would have been. I don't rate the dealer either - e.g. I found it had two different makes of spark-plug fitted, but it has been totally reliable (touch wood) and source of joy to me since.

I wouldn't be put off by the fact the bike is ex-demo. In my experience the bike is quite capable of shrugging off any abuse it may have got. And with a fresh two-year warranty I don't think you could go wrong.

Seriously, they expect you to pay for the miles OTHER PEOPLE put on the bike? Tell them you'll pay for your share - proportional to the number of demo miles you put on the bike test riding it. 8)

My personal view is that demo bikes are great value and a wise buy as anything that could have gone wrong, generally will have before you get the bike. Buy it for christ sake
