I ran across a dealer a few weeks ago who has a new 05 1000. No luggage or any other extras that I can tell. The price was in the mid 10's, I just said no thank you. Call's me up a few days latter and said they would make me an offer if I was still interested. I'm not feeling all that comfortable with the economy at the moment and I really don't need a second bike which is why I sold my 08 650 V Strom. Still I'm intrigued, what is a new 05 worth? It's 4 years old now no matter how you cut it. What do you guys think

I bought a new 06 model one year ago for $9995. With the economy the way it is I don't think this bike would be worth more than $8K.

i actually paid a few hundred less than that for my leftover 06 a year and a half ago.

The thing is, it all comes down into how deep the dealer is into the bike. They have or are paying flooring. Plus what they pay for the bike. I'd guesstimate that $9,500 is as low as most dealers will go before taking a loss on the bike.

I paid $8000 for my 05 that had only 1400 miles on it from a private seller. This was in Jan 2007. If they want to sell it in this economy they should be able to do better.

My 2 cents

Businesses don't stay in business by selling products for less than they paid for them.

However, there is always the option of buying from a private seller.

I agree. The one selling point is it still has a full factory warranty and maintenance program with it.

Agreed, but businesses don't stay in business by not selling a product at all.

Taking a small loss vs. not moving the bike at all ?

At least if they sell it they may make some of it back through the service dept. or accessories.

Keep in mind, it's going to need new belts. If you bite on it, have them throw those in too.

Tough call but I was say pass. There are too many '07 & '08 in the 10s. They would have to really drop the price to earn my business on that bike. 10ish will buy you a new 07 S model. Just my .02 cents.
Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies, it's pretty much how I feel. Right now my main ride is a BMW LT and it suits me just fine. I've been looking for something to replace my 08 V Strom which I sold a few weeks ago ( didn't expect to sell it so fast). I really don't need another bike until I hit the road again which will take place towards the end of Feb when bike week begins at Daytona. I travel by motorhome through out a good part of the year and the Lt takes up too much room in the trailer. Just test rode an 07 Tiger with an upgrade exhaust.......sweeeeeeeet! It's just to dam tall and seems expensive to lower where I need it to be. I think I'll just sit tight for a while and keep an eye on things unless it's a deal I just can't pass up.
