I think of my Multi as a great single rider bike that can accommodate a passenger and can handle touring, especially if you stay off the expressways and find roads where an agile and firmly suspended bike like the Multi can shine.

If most of your riding is done solo and you do not do much expressway riding the Multi is a very rewarding ride.

If you ride 2 up or felt the ride was too firm I would look at the Tiger 1050. I have both and if I were solo or doing moderate touring I would consider the Multi, but for longer rides and with a passenger the Tiger is more spacious and less harsh to ride from a suspension standpoint.

A quick summary between the two is the Multi is more agile, firm and compact than the Tiger and the Tiger is more spacious, forgiving suspension and has more room for a passenger.

Great responses (other than the appropriately named "Dick" -- get a life, man)

Mike, I have a Harley and a Multi, and love them both, but they're definitely not interchangeable -- each excels at what it does.

I want do get on the road and go to California the scenic route: HD. It's an FXDX so it's surprisingly competent in the twisties.

I commute everyday to work on the New Jersey Parkway: Duc. It's light, it's got excellent power and excellent ergos for this sort of urban cage-fighting. And it's fire-engine red :) hmm... that may not be such a great thing in this constabulary-infested state...

So, keep the HD and add the Multi to the collection -- you'll be glad!

I would imagine an ST4 would do better for you... multi is a bit harder edged than you seem to want.
Just my $.02
Honestly... she said "why don't you get the sexy red italian one?"... lol

i have the 1100S and have also had an FJR and a few other bikes. the mts is my favorite, but like others are saying, if you're used to a big HD it will take some getting used to. I went from the FJR to the MTS and liked it much better. the MTS feels like a big drit bike with grip. you're much more in control of it. now every time I get on any other bike, it feels awkward to me - much like the FJR. just never felt like i really new what the front was doing.

I knocked out 6500 miles on the MTS last fall doing a loop out west. it needed more wind protection (I attached the windscreen form a BMW 1200GS) and some cushion so I bought an Airhawk seat cushion (which I can't recommend highly enough). So is it the perfect touring bike? no. but w/ a couple simple mods, to me it comes pretty close, and it's as good as they get around town or in the tight stuff.

passenger accomodations??? again, depends on your passenger, and how often will u be 2 up vs. solo? u can't accomodate everything so u have to shoot for the best option. for me it's the MTS for sure.

as for the chain... really?! get a good chain, and lube it every few days. takes 3 minutes. c'mon.

see if u can get a long demo. take your companion. good luck regardless.

Get a VROD and convert it into a Road Rod. But I like my multi for the fun.
