Hi everyone,
This is my first post on this forum and at the moment I am only thinking about getting a Multistrada. My main concern is the cost of servicing in the UK, particularly the cambelts. I normally do all my own servicing on my bikes, is this feasible on the Multistrada? I guess I could at least do some of it myself and maybe get the dealer to do the complicated stuff. What sort of servicing costs do you UK riders pay?
What is the overall opinion of the Multistrada? At the moment I am riding a TL1000S and a 955 Speed Triple but I am thinking of chopping them both in for just one bike. My other thought was the KTM Superduke. Thoughts, anyone?

If you the official bike route, the 600 and 6,000 service costs are approx £185, £325, I got the 600 for £125, pretty sure some dealers like www.woodsmotorcycles.co.uk list the service costs on their web site, I guess if you went the import route you could do some yourself and then ask a good Ducati independent service agent to do the rest, you would probably save on the initial purchase price of the bike too, but the warranty may not be as comprehensive as an official bike, I think the KTM and the Speed Triple are more like an S4R, I brought my MS for sport/Touring, it does exactly that, highly recommended, on the cam belts, I am pretty sure they are out of a Renault RT, made by Gates, if Gates put them in a red box the price goes up!

If you are buying new from an offical dealer then you should try to negoyiate the 600 mile service to be done with the labour content FOC

That's similar to the prices my local dealer quoted, and nearer £500 for the 12,000. What on earth do they do for that sort of money? What is done at 6000, is it just oil change and check levels or do they adjust the valves as well?

If that sort of cost is going into a dealer for top A1 work, then o.k, because they are not making any money on bike sales!, but how many offer A1 service? how many can you trust to change the filter, check the belts? but it does beg the question of what do they do for their money, because here is a strange one, a Porsche cost's less to service over 2 years than a numpy stroodie!

Easy solution- Invest in the rocker arm removal tools,a supply of shims,whack off the heads and have a go on the kitchen table. I used to do this but no longer have the tools or the table or the ex....I don't even have a garage so I let the dealer do it,test ride whatever they will lend me and know damn well that if I have a problem everyone there knows my name. After 30 years of owning Ducs I am so bloody glad to have things such as Ducati dealers around. I change my own oil and filters and check things out and the service value is worth it. Don

Used to do my own maintinance,(not enough time now-kids) but your
right, prices for 6000k and 12000k seem roughly about the same
no matter where you live. If you fancy a go, the hardest thing is the
valve adjustment. you must have the tools and proper shims and time.
