I've just about completed doing my research and I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on a new '09. I'm having the hardest time, however, figuring out what a fair price would be. My initial thought was that I could at least get 10% off MSRP OTD for a new '09. But then I also need a few more items...luggage, heated grips, service contract, hand guards, and a rear wheel stand. I thought maybe I could present this as a value meal to the dealer with the hopes of getting a better deal. I know it's common to receive 10%-15% off accessories at the point of purchase. Would it be doable to just ask for 11-12% off MSRP for the entire package or would it be better to negotiate the bike first, then the accessories, and then the maintenance contract?
If I'm willing to spend $17k MSRP on a package deal, what should be my highest negotiating price?
Luckily I have several dealerships around to try in case I don't get it right with the first one or two.
Thanks for any advice.
Oh yeah...and if any So Cal dealers are reading this, PM me so we can talk!

Consider the service aspects of the dealer also as you have a few to choose from. These can be tricky bikes and you may need advice or help in the future. Many of us have only one option and then have to drive many miles to get to it. I am fortunate that my one local dealer is excellent. If you are shopping cost only, your pricing formula seems reasonable and you should be able to get someone to bite on it.

Was this the OTD price?
My first attempt ended up $1000 over MSRP OTD...hmmm...I think I need to readjust my thinking. I didn't think I would get it on the first try though. I'm getting pre-approved for a loan, so hopefully that will make it easier.

There is about $2200 mark up from dlr cost, ask them to split it with you. Freight is a hard cost they will not give that away. And there is tax and license. Multistradas are not hot sellers in the US. there may be some 08's out there that you are more likely to get a deal on. If you buy a bike the dealer will most likely to give you 15 to 20% off on assoceries. The flooring goes on, expensive motorcycles are not flying out the door right now, this is a good time to buy.

The MTS is gone, but I have others to ride and am always looking.
