Wanna buy » Would like to buy Multistrada 620-advice please

I am new to biking and have just passed my test at 42 years. Love to buy multistrada620. I need it for commuting and fun. Could cope with the odd breakdown whilst having fun but not for commuting. Are these bikes reliable? Are they expeneive to run (ie pre 2007). There are a number around low milage few years old. What do you think? Could go for ducati monster 620 if much better/ reliable.

If you find a clean one with reasonable miles--- go for it!!

I've had mine for 2 1/2 years, since new, and other than the 6k service and tires it has not cost a penny. (Course I am currently due for the 12k but I'm thinking of tackling that one myself to save a few $$. Over the winter maybe.)
Super reliable, 55 mpg, great for one up in the twisties, commuting, and even long tours with passenger and all the bags. (The wife and I just did a 1000 mile weekend and had a blast as usual.)

Of course you spend big bucks for the accessories we all think we need. It's fun to do that but not mandatory. This bike performs well and provides a big grin right out of the box. From what I understand the Monster 620 is essentially the identical power plant. I just did some riding on one and while it was fun with the different position the MTS is so much more versatile and even more fun! Displacement is overated! Get the 620 and enjoy.

I bought mine for commuting and it is great for me. I swapped out for a throttle tamer and don't mind the stop and go as much.
Try it, you'll like it.

3 yrs, 50,000km, only problem is the tyres keep wearing out.
Reliability is no more an issue with modern Ducs than it is with Jap bikes.
Monster vs MTS - just a matter of which you find comfortable, same engine very similar handling, lots more leg room on the Multi.

I use mine almost entirely for commuting these days. No reliability issues as long as you do the scheduled maintenance. The Monster is a great bike too but the Multi would be best if you are planning to spend much time on the freeway.

Now for the shameless plug...My 620 is for sale for $5,100.

3.5 years and somewhere around 90000km - no problems except a lack of time to ride at the moment.

As xmonster says, tires are the main maintenance cost, but then at about 17000 - 20000kms per set probably not that bad really.

I've not ridden a monster so can't compare but leg room is definitely not a problem for me..

What all the above said, except that I believe the front geometry of the MS makes it more manuverable than the Monster. I really like my MS620. It handles great and I've never had a bit of trouble with it (after 15.000km). I would like more power on occasion, but you don't really need it. The Ducati hard paniers are a great option if you tour but cost about 900euros. If you can find a used bike which already has the paniers, you'll probably save some money.
