Wanna buy » 2010 vs. earlier models

Well I will buy a multistrada but now the question is should I buy an earlier model like an 06 with all the bells and whistles (Ohlins) for half the price of the 2010 base model? My father will turn 100,000 miles on his 06 multistrada next week (base model) and he knows all the ins and out of that engine. I looked at the 09's thinking the prices would drop with the launch of the 2010 but they are still asking 14K everywhere I looked I guess due to the better valve material. So might as well get the 2010 for 1K more if I go that route. The best prices are on the 06's and I know the engine will stand the test of time if properly cared for. I just cant see spending 15,000$ on a bike when I know the 06 has everything I need and more for 7-8K. Any thoughts? I want the 2010 but is 50 more horsepower and less valve maintenance worth 8K more dollars?

At least go for the standard with ABS ... +$1.5k. I'd say 4 fuel maps, DTS/ABS equipped MTS would be VERY close to what you'll ever need. The ESA would be very nice to have, but I CAN live without it. I'm planning to go with the standard + ABS & purchase the "touring" accessories which should put me in $18k~$18.5k range which is within a few hundred$ compared to a BMWGS similarly equipped.

You just answered your own question , if the '06 has everything you need (I know I def. love mine) go for that and enjoy it.
You can check out the 1200 in a couple of years when issues have been worked out and prices go down on leftovers, etc.
