Wanna buy » 1100 or 1200?

If you're interested in buying a Multistrada, this is the place to post questions about the bike.

It's gonna be my first Duc......and thinking maybe I should stick to the older style 1100 instead of the w/cooled 1200. The maintenece issue with the previous models scares me , but I want performaNCE.

you'll love it either way you go.

I don't think you are going to find much as far as maintenance issues go on an 1100, they were well sorted by the time Ducati updated the Multi design to the 1200. Both bikes will give you performance, the 1200 has more top end. If you like riding tight twisties, both will make you grin.

Incredible deals can be had on the classic models....awesome bikes for the money.

I've ridden both, and if it horse power you want, IMHO you gotta go for the 1200. 95 bhp or 150 bhp? there is no substitute for power.
If it has tits or wheels its gonna give you trouble son!

Agreed: There is no comparison between the power of the 1100 and the 1200! The 1200 takes your breath away when you first ride it! BIG wow factor!

IMHO, however, the older MTS "feels" nimbler and is more comfortable. Others may disagree...

well, either one has way more power than any bike I owned when I used to live out there, both have way more power than is useful out to Hunt, Vanderpool, Leakey... but then is 150 hp really enough for west Texas? is any hp enough out there? Here in Appalachia you can't even use all the hp of the 1100 on a decently twisty road, interstate and four laners is about it (40-50 is actually deathly fast in many places..). if "performance" means cornering ability, you won't be disappointed with the 1100 at all, the two-valve Duc motors have one of the greatest "street" power bands ever.

Sounds like youre familiar with the terrain here. The "twisted sisters" is a fun ride, but the off-cambers between Kerrville and Bandera are the most fun/dangerous roads anywhere. Ducati has a test ride day out at Luckenbach in october...may give it a try this year.
