Hi Guys
I used to be here when I had a 04 strada and sold it because I cant live with ugly and noisy!. I have succumbed to my error and looking at the 2011 Touring version. Has anyone experienced any issues with this model i.e. teething or is it as I have ridden the demo- better than mans best friend and remains loyal to start and no leccy issues for example? I did hear the ride by wire has been an issue in wet weather??
Or anything elase that needs ironing out. Has anyone hada good deal on a new one? i.e. not paid silly man price list, if so where?

The only real issue has been the weak rear brake, and Ducati has just released a warranty kit for that, consisting of new and larger master cylinder and lines. I just had mine done and it cured the problem. Otherwise no problems. I've ridden in pouring rain for hours and not had any wet weather issues. I've got 6k miles on my 2011 S Touring and its AWESOME! Recommendation: If you're looking at touring, make sure you at least spring for the optional topcase. Volume is huge and its really handy for trips!

Thanks for that, because the one I rode seem to have a lot of foor brake lever travel and no real feel of braking at all.I have found a 2011 Touring which has got all the bits on it inc top box as well so should be the one I guess?

My 1200 touring is an early build 2010, and there were a lot of teething issues with these models. In addition to the weak rear brake, many had combinations of poor fueling, poor performance of the ABS, malfunctioning steering locks, hands free software, and starter buttons, leaking panniers, and poorly designed centerstands that interfered with the riders boot, etc.

I'm pretty sure all of these issues have been addressed in the 2011 bikes, particularly recent build ones. Just make sure the bike you are looking at has all the current updates, retrofits, and service bulletins done, and you should be good to go. As an example, I had a DES error a couple of months ago. When I had it in, the tech told me there had been eight software updates just for the DES ECU since I'd bought my bike. I'm waiting for the winter to have all the updates, the rear brake fix, and the pannier retrofit done on my bike, as I don't want to risk missing any of the remaining good riding weather. Just broke 10k miles, and it is one hell of a fun bike! You should love it!

Forgive me if this has been asked before. How is this thing in the dirt. I know it's not a "dirt" bike but just looking at it I think it would do fire roads OK and what ever else. Experience? Anyone?
I'm taking a serious look at this bike, haven't had hands on yet but soon. Then if I like, I start saving my pennies.
Thanks in advance.

it will do hard pack dirt fine - even bumpy rutted roads. Sand, mud or anything really soft is a problem. heres a shot of mine in Big Bend

10K miles now on my 2011 1200S Touring. Mine has the topcase as well as the full termi system. Easily the most impressive bike I've ever ridden. No problems (once they did the rear brake warranty fix) and the bike just keeps getting better. Make sure you get the topcase! Its huge, waterproof and comes in handy for carrying just about anything. You'll be disappointed in the coverage from the stock windscreen. I fixed that with the MRA windshield from Germany. It has an adjustable upper spoiler, which works well in deflecting the airflow. Other than that and a larger sidestand foot plate, I haven't made any riding mods to the bike. You'll love it... :)
