Hi Folks,
First post! I am seriously considering buying a Multistrada, and am focusing on the 07-09 1100s.
I am bummed I just missed buying one from a guy down the street from me: he wanted/got $8000 firm for one with 14,000 miles and good upgrades & condition.
Now I'm considering one that's 1.5 hour drive from me - it has 13k miles and good upgrades too. The owner is asking $9,500, which seems very high by my research. I am seeing dealers asking about $8700 for comparable bikes in California, but not very close to me. I suspect I'd really like the bike as it's set up, but even if he came down to $9k I think it's too much.
Any opinions? Thanks in advance!
Jay

Any more details on the bike? What has been done for upgrades? That'll make a big difference. $9500 does seem a bit high for 13K miles. Also depends very much on maintenance history. If it's had all it's major service checks, and everything is OK, it's obviously worth it.
I purchased an '04 Multi 1000DS with 20K miles for $5500. However, I've invested about $1500 making it right (rebuilt clutch, new tires, new chain, new rear sprocket, new levers, new windscreen, new mirrors, etc.) and that's why it was priced so low. I knew all this going in, but the service history was very good and the owner had taken good care of it. It also has full termi exhaust with DP ECU, matching hard panniers and rear rack. For $9500, the bike should need NOTHING!

It's coming up on the 15k mile service which will be around $800. As for the extras: Termi slip on, mid pipe, chip, new DP seat, Rizoma bars and grips, far mirrors, laminar windshield and lip, top luggage rack, sliders, after market clutch cylinder, throttlemeister, 14 tooth front sprocket, DP foot pegs.Heavier rear spring, lighter fork oil. He say's perfect condtion, but there's the $800 service.
But like I said, I see similarly set up bikes for sale by dealers who are a day's drive away for around mid to high $8000s.
The 14 tooth front sprocket throws me off a bit, wouldn't this tend to make it feel even "torquier" which shouldn't be necessary. I think it lowers the top speed in each gear a bit, right? I will probably want to put back in the 15 tooth, which will require a new chain and rear sprocket.

You don't need a new chain and rear sprocket if you change your front sprocket, and yes, smaller front is the same as bigger back... higher rpms at speed (less top end), but better accel (better bottom end). Stunt riders who like to do instant wheelies and tricks, use like a 60 tooth rear sprocket. Stock rear for a Multi is 41.
The bike has a lot of nice mods. If you can get the seller to drop the price at least the cost of the service, you might be able to make a deal. Offer $8500, and see what happens.

From the sound of those prices, maybe the market for the aircooleds has come back some.Jay* wrote:But like I said, I see similarly set up bikes for sale by dealers who are a day's drive away for around mid to high $8000s.
I think for $1500 bucks difference in price, I'd probably take a day's drive to look at those other bikes, if your local guy won't work with you. Done it before.

STeve: thanks for the feedback. I am considering going to L.A. to look at those other options, but the problem is getting the time for the 2-day round trip plus seeing the bike and staying somewhere in the area... But definitely considering it.
