Don't get me wrong, I'm a Multistrada fan and will probably buy a 620 later this fall or next spring, but the current Buells (XB series) are as reliable as any Ducati. Just stop by Badweatherbikers.com and visit the Xboard. They are a pretty friendly group (much the same as you guys here) and will be glad to address any problems that might have shown up on their bikes. I've been reading the threads there for a couple of years and trust me, there are no more problems with the XB's than I've seen show up in this forum on the Multi.
And yes they do vibrate a bit at idle but at cruising speed they are exceptionally smooth. And don't forget, a few of the current threads on this site are about vibration through the handlebars causing numbness to one's fingers. I've never noted anyone on the Xboard complain likewise.
You are right that it is direct competition with the Multi and I think it will be an excellant machine and Harley will make sure that there is plenty of accessories for them.
I don't like the way it looks, and I have issues with some of the design features of the XB series, but I can't say that I don't like it until I have ridden one. I can say that I do like what it represents, which is direct competition for the Multistrada. If it catches on it will do at least one of two things for us here.
1) It will light a fire under Ducati to make the Multistrada better than it already is.
2) It will get other motorcycle manufacturers to stand up and take notice of this style of motorcycle and build their own models, giving us a wider selection of choices if #1 doesn't happen.
I was just taking another look at it and....is it just me or does this look like the bastard child of a Ducati Multistrada and a BMW R1200GS? Clearly they are trying to target competing with both bikes. I would have to agree with NovaCoder and say that they are making a mistake there.

I went to Buells website to read more about this new bike. They have a video you can play and it's pretty funny, apparently Eric Buell has just created this new type of motorcycle, it's a sport bike that you can also ride in the dirt, he says there's nothing else like it in the world.

A sportbike that you can also ride in the dirt.....well technically he is correct because although the Multistrada is considered a sport bike Ducati does not advocate riding it off road. The Adventure tourers like the BMW's and the KTM's can be ridden off road but the manufacturers do not classify them as sport bikes. I still think Buell is full of it and I think that they are making a mistake marketing it this way. It will come back to bite them on the a$$.

The new Cycle World mag has the first review of this new Buell and they love it. Easily the best Buell yet they say. They have a short comparison of the Buell, MTS, and 1200GS that's pretty interesting too.
I had a Buell M2 before my multistrada. I wish I still had it. Not that I don't love my Multi, but the Buell was fun, serious torque, and monster sound. Plus it never left me stranded! I just did'nt have room for all in my garage.

Sorry Stradas, I don't have a way of posting the article here. Cycle World has a website that they usually have the tests on after the magazine has been out for a few weeks though.
