Currently own a Vstrom and I'm looking at something with more power and excitement. I have found an 1100s that was unfortunately stolen and found but had the ignition fooled around with. It only has about 25,000 km on it. The price is very reasonable (compared to a running bike). I'm assuming that nothing else was "hacked", how big a job is a new ignition and wiring. Best to take it to a dealer?
The winter is ahead to work on it and it will be indoors but if it's liable to be a rats nest of wiring and something for a technician to deal with then I'm over my head.
Thanks for suggestions.

Hi blueroadie. I'm not the one to give you advice on wiring a new ignition although I'm sure someone here can help you. I do, however, have an excellent condition 2008 1100s for sale in the marketplace if you haven't already purchased this bike. Price is negotiable to a member of our community. Where are you in the province? I'm in Langley.

There is certainly potential to spend a lot of money getting that bike on the road. Especially if you just drop it off at a dealer.

I have a full set of locks keys and alarm parts that can all be replaced, you would just have to have your ECU reflashed. PM me

I've only talked to the guy selling the bike so far, I'm hoping to arrange to see it this coming weekend. The bike had been stolen and hotwired. From the brief conversation I had it may have been written off and bought by the present owner who has done nothing with it. I'll have to see it and go from there. It's far enough away that a day trip is involved. Is there a chance the ECU is damaged from hotwiring?
Thanks, I'll keep you in mind once I see the bike.

To hot wire a multi will entail destroying the wire loom and the antenna. Im wondering if they bypassed the cluster?? Weird, but I bet someone here would know better how to do this than me as I use a key.....

Either way, I have a full set of looms, ECU, keys, enough to just replace everything if you want to take the time to do that.
