I recently settled in Sydney Australia and I am currently researching the market with a view to purchasing a twin-cylinder bike.
The local Ducati dealer recommended Western QBE as an insurer as they offer discounts for Ducati club members.
I'm not overly impressed with their quote for a Multistrada 1000, when compared to an alternative price to insure a BMW R1100 S which was 40% less (more powerful & higher replacement value; maybe I got a discount for blandness ). Strangely the price QBE quoted for a Triumph Thruxton (less power, lower replacement value) was 25% above the Multistrada with higher excess.
Do any Australian readers have any recommendations for a competitive insurer?
Try Swann Insurance, and also Shannon's. Shannon's has done insurance for classic/enthusiast cars for some time and only in the last few weeks they have been advertising on TV here in Melbourne, using Daryl Beattie, that they are now insuring bikes; I think for riders with some/several years experience.
I can't say that either is or isn't going to be cheaper than QBE. I guess they both have web sites. I am not sure if it's 'Shannon's' or 'Shannons' but you will find them.
