I'm in the process of purchasing a used 2004 MTS 1000 DS. I found it advertised on the Internet. The price ($6,500) seems reasonable. The problem is that the seller lives 8 hours away so I'll be going up there with cash in hand for an on the spot purchase. What problems should I be aware of with this bike (about 9000 miles on it) and what can I look for as a non-mechanic that might indicate that the bike has a problem(s)?

some folks have complained about the gages (malfunctioning I guess... mine are fine), the kickstand, the brakes (shudder at low speeds)...

I'd say general cleanliness would indicate if it was cared for.

Hell, I'min MD and selling an '04 with only 5k on the clock... 'course it's $8250 but...
