Wanna buy » Build quality / servicing, especially in London

If you're interested in buying a Multistrada, this is the place to post questions about the bike.

HI
I'm seriously thinking about selling my yamaha fz6 and buying a MTS 1000. The only issue holding me back is the servicing/ build quality.

My fz6 is a good, reliable, always start first time bike, however the excitement is no longer there, riding it has become a chore. I went out on a multistrada and loved it.

I live in London and ride my bike year round each and every day through winter and all the road salt it brings.

Please could you help me decide. For those of you riding in the uk, how have you found looking after your MTS's. Is the build quality up to the UK weather?
Do you literally have to wash the bike each time you take it out? Does your bike spend most of its life at the dealer being repaired for one problem or the other?

Due to the nature of my job, and the fact that i don't have a car, I need a bike that would start every morning, even in winter.

I don't go for names when choosing a bike, I just test rode the mts and found it fulfilled all my needs. However after paying all that money I don't want to get frustrated with a bike that needs to much tlc. Please help.

Hi Carl mate

I got one of the first Multis in the UK back in 2003, and I've still got it, I love it to bits, BUT this is my own opinion others may and possibly will disagree, my bike is a summer toy I don't think it will stand up to the harsh winter roads, salt n all. I have never had one problem with my bike, it has always been serviced by main dealer regardless of cost

The one thing that would put me off commuting on a bike like the Multi is the clutch especially in heavy city traffic, and before all the 'know alls' pipe up I have fitted a 14 tooth front sprocket AND DP clutch slave cylinder to reduce pull on the lever.

Hope this helps mate, personally I don't think it's the bike for you BUT it's still the BEST bike out there.

Cheers WOGGER

A friend of mine has an 05 'Strada and has done 20000 miles on it including riding through the winter. AFAIK it's stood up to it really well. Saying that my 03 has some flaky paint on the engine, so the finish certainly isn't bulletproof.

Wogger, I guess you're the same Wogger who used to ride an Elefant and was on the Ixion list?
