Any experiences on the reliability of the Multistrada?

06 620, 6 months use, 10,500km, only one problem - once i start i can't stop riding

7500 MILES fork seals replaced under warranty. exhaust gaskets replaced, one battery, two tires, one set of brake pads - not under warranty

Over 12K, just routine maintenance. I had an idle stumble that was self induced (arrow full exhaust system). At 12K valves were perfectly in spec. On my third set of tires (tyres). Fourth if you count the nail through the back that had to get replaced early.

20,000 miles, got the stock 04 side stand replaced with a new 05 style no charge under warranty. Had a small oil leak on the front cylinder cam cover, fixed no charge under warranty. Got the oil cooler lines that didn't leak replaced for free under warranty.
No other defects, no break downs, no real problems to speak of. I did have to replace the chain at 12,000 miles which I thought was a little premature. I also changed the sprocket at the same time.
I'd buy another in a second. Great bike, very versatile, good comfort (Sargent Seat), good range, optional luggage. I can leave most full sport bikes in the really tight twisties, and keep up in the faster stuff, and still carry luggage.

Major problems with temperature and the throttle bodies in the first hundred miles. New parts, no problems since.

Only problem so far is that the bike needs the mixture setting up every 9 months (9000 miles) or so, as it becomes difficult to start and needs a trip to the local dealer. Apart from that its almost as good as a Japanese bike.

Servicing takes twice as long as my Honda, but is not really any more complicated, and apart from the belts is no more expensive. Do plan for a few more replacement parts that you wouldn't need with a Honda - Clutch basket & plates (£225 at 10,000 miles, the plates don't wear out but the clearances on the teeth open up). You may also get obsessed with buying accessories - carbon fibre, exhaust etc.

I think if you ride it and then forget it you'll probably have unreliability issues, but if you wash it every weekend and adhere to the maintenance schedules you will have bo more problems that with any other bike.
