While I would prefer to have the dealer that sells me a bike also be the dealer that services the bike, I am considering buying a bike from a dealer that is not my preferred dealer. Simply because the preferred dealer (Ducati Seattle) has no Multis to sell right now. Down the road, will I be treated any differently when my bike is serviced by the dealer that did not get the sale? Hope this isn't a silly question...

Tell them that while you would have preferred to buy the bike from them, you'd certainly rather have the maintenance work done by a shop w/ a reputation for excellent customer service that you can trust. For one thing, it's the truth, and I think they'll be more than happy to secure a long-term customer.

If you feel married to any one dealership, you're asking for trouble.

If a dealer doesn't treat you right because you didn't buy it there, then that's clue number one they aren't worth a damn.
