Hello, All:
I'm new and in the process of deciding whether to go with an 07 1100 or the BMW R12R. My previous bike was a BMW R12GS, so I've got some time on the German engineering. IF I decide on the MTS, it'll be my FIRST Ducati. So far, with all the accessories included, the Ducati is far better buy for my $...so I placed a deposit waiting for delivery. I plan to test ride it before finalizing my decision.
My duaghter (8yrs odl) rides me with quite often & my concern is with the exhaust under the passenger seat, will heat be an issue? Your input would be much appreciated...thanks.

They are very different bikes to ride. The R1200R is cramped feeling to me, whereas the MTS feels roomy, somewhat like your GS, but sportier. When you ride them you'll know. BTW, by brother has an '07 R1200R and it left him stranded recently for the second time this year. The first was a brake line leak and a couple weeks ago an ignition problem when it wouldn't recognize the key and he couldn't start it. While he loves the bike, he's getting really aggravated with it.
The heat isn't an issue, as QCK said.

Steve...I've decided to go with the Ducati, but it's been over 2 wks that I've been waiting for the bike to arrive at my local dealer!
You're right about the R1200R feeling a bit cramp. My R12GS was the same way, I felt locked in place, especailly when I could barely paddle my feet off road due to the cylinders sticking out.
I'm very anxious for the bike to arrive & sign on the "dotted line".

Even though you have already decided I thought I would add my 2 cents and tell you that my passengers have not had a problem with the heat from the exhaust. Now my 748......
Congrats on the purchase!
