Re: upgrade from a monster for long rides worth the cost?
Besides my wife's 2012 BMW R1200R, she also has a Monster 1100 EVO. The Monster makes a great hooligan bike, but it is not a long distance tourer. No range, ergos suck for 500+ mile days, no luggage space, etc. Great for tearing up the local back roads and going to bike night, but a totally ...

Re: Multi 1200 S - Any long term issues?
If I sit at idle in traffic for a long while and the engine temp climbs up to around 220 or so (where it stabilizes), then I'll start to feel a little heat, but it is just noticeable, not a problem. Once I start rolling, it goes away. BTW, it is much less heat than I've felt on an ST1300 or similar ...

Actually we do have some good roads over here in the west central part of the state. We just don't tell anyone about them...

Re: 1200 S Touring Vs. Concours 14
You'll find that even with the bags loaded, you'll be able to carve a pretty tight line through the corners. When you take the bags off, get ready to hang on. Think giant motard on steroids! Try an MRA Vario windscreen. It works for me, and I do a lot of distance riding on my MTS. If you ever get ...

Re: 1200 S Touring Vs. Concours 14
I've said this before on the board, but here it is again:
After 40 years of riding, the MTS is easily the most impressive bike I've ever ridden. There are bikes that are more comfortable. There are bikes with more amenities. There are (a few) bikes with more power. But nothing combines the handling ...

Re: 1200 S Touring Vs. Concours 14
Don't worry about the topcase interfering with the handling. I've got 12k miles on my 1200S Touring now, most of that with the topcase mounted. Unless you are carrying bricks in the topcase, you won't even feel it there. BTW, I also got rid of my 2010 BMW 1200GS and a 2009 CBR 1000RR Repsol when I ...

Re: MTS 1200 Sport Touring => what mods ?
Now have 12K on my 2011 MTS S Touring. No issues. No key fob problems, anything. Bike is awesome. Popped for the full termi system at purchase. The noise is not an issue, as long as you leave the baffles in. Nice sound and only really gets loud when you want it to (handful of throttle). I've ridden ...

10K miles now on my 2011 1200S Touring. Mine has the topcase as well as the full termi system. Easily the most impressive bike I've ever ridden. No problems (once they did the rear brake warranty fix) and the bike just keeps getting better. Make sure you get the topcase! Its huge, waterproof and ...

Re: 2010 or 2011 Standard at a great price?
If you're still looking for a taller windscreen, try the two-piece MRA windscreen. The adjustable upper spoiler really makes a difference in the airflow.

Re: Leave my GSA for a Multi?
It will be tough getting more than 12.5 trade-in for the GSA from any dealer, as the average retail (not trade-in) per NADA is 12.45. You could try selling it outright and if its outfitted right and in great shape will probably get a little more than that for it. I'd suggest putting it up on the ADV ...

Re: Leave my GSA for a Multi?
Too bad. Check around at some of the other dealerships. What kind of a deal are you looking for? I'm pretty tight with the Eurocycles shop here in Tampa. They do both BMW and Ducati, so are always interested in nice GS trade-ins...

Re: Leave my GSA for a Multi?
I owned 3 1200GS models before my 2011 MTS 1200S Touring, including an 09 GSA. My thoughts:
First off, the MTS isn't going to be any more affected by the road conditions than any other bike. Like anything else ridden up north (I lived in Alaska for 2 years and Montana 2 1/2, and rode in both), the ...
